Being thankful for what we have means more when you show your thanks through actively professing your gratitude – the more often, the better. If you’re already actively incorporating a gratitude journal into your daily life, you know what a positive light it shines on your day. If not, consider starting and keeping a daily gratitude journal as kind of a diary that’s all good.
How powerful is the simple act of professing your gratitude for all the good things in your life? One study by the University of California showed that patients who faithfully kept a gratitude journal during their recovery complained of fewer physical symptoms, felt happier and more optimistic about their lives, were better able to meet goals and exercised more.

The best part? Keeping a gratitude journal takes so little time. You can gain all the positive effects of an attitude of gratitude in as little as five minutes a day.

Here are three simple steps to get you on your way to noticing the good things in life and showing gratitude every day.
First, get yourself a Gratitude Journal girlfriend. It can be as simple as a small spiral notebook that you keep with you, or as fancy as you want to get. As a more immediate option, you might even use the “notes” feature in your Smartphone to jot down what you’re grateful for – in the moment. You can always transfer the notes to your journal later.
Then, each day, write down three to five things you’re grateful for. You can be grateful for ANYTHING … tastes, smells, feelings, events, people, actions. Down the road, you’ll even discover yourself finding gratitude in nearly everything about life. Start small, maybe just a word or short phrase to help you remember the thought, the sensation, the moment. Then as you get into a daily gratitude rhythm, you can grow your writing in description and specificity. These aren’t just thoughts, get them out of your head, write them down and say them out loud. There is amazing power in your words.
Third, and this is important. Write in your Gratitude Journal every day. In no time it will become a very good habit. Even on your worst day you will find a few things to be grateful for.
