As usual, The Faux Diet Queen is thinking about food. This week the FDQ (as we affectionately call her) is talking about coffee.We’re not sure why she’s talking about coffee (we can only guess she hasn’t been getting enough sleep…).
Whatever her reasons for picking this particular topic, we hope you’ll join us for a cup of coffee, or tea, or water, or just for a visit as we follow her commentary about coffee and friendship.
There are two kinds of food—food you need and food you want. It’s the difference between broccoli and chocolate (bad example—I need both of those).
More specifically, there are two kinds of coffee—the coffee you need and the coffee you want.
The coffee you need is the first-cup-of-coffee-in-the-morning type of coffee. You may enjoy it, but [let’s face it] all those wonderful sayings like “There’s too much blood in my caffeine system” and “I haven’t had my coffee yet—don’t make me kill you” are based on reality. (Reality for some of us, anyway.)
The coffee you need is the stuff that powers you through the 3pm slump, the 8pm lecture, or the all-nighter you need to pull. The coffee you need is the stuff you drink no matter how bitter it is, no matter how long ago it was made. As long as it’s not lukewarm (blech) and has a decent percentage of caffeine, it will do.
The coffee you want is completely different. This is the hey-would-you-like-to-meet-for-a-cup-of-coffee. The coffee you want is the coffee that lets you take time to visit with a friend, catch up on the news of the day, take a short time-out.
The coffee you want is about the time, the mood, the experience. It’s wrapping your hands around the mug to get warm on a cold day, it’s sniffing the aroma as you wait for your coffee to reach just the right drinking temperature, it’s about warming up your cup with just a little more ‘hot’ to prolong the time.
