Girlfriend Gathering at Whole Foods | A Story of Healthy Food from Lisa McDaniel Brown
May 24, 2012 – 8:09 am
“High-tech tomatoes. Mysterious milk. Supersquash. Are we supposed to eat this stuff? Or is it going to eat us?” ~Annita Manning
“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” ~Proverb
You know how sometimes you and a girlfriend see the exact same thing and yet describe it completely differently? We decided it would be fun to send two of our fab friends out together and have them both write about the experience. We sent Nutrition Guru LISA MCDANIEL BROWN and the ever hilarious FAUX DIET QUEEN out to a local Whole Foods grocery store to see what would happen. Not only did the Faux Diet Queen (FDQ to her friends) learn something a bit more than she ever thought she could, they had a great time (no surprise there).
Today, Lisa shares her perspective as a guru and teacher. Check back tomorrow when the Faux Diet Queen shares her perspective (as only she can).
On a recent warm and sunny Sunday afternoon I met Read More »

Here’s to your Health | Girlfriends & National Women’s Health Month
May 7, 2012 – 11:42 pm
“Women in particular need to keep an eye on their physical and mental health, because if we’re scurrying to and from appointments and errands, we don’t have a lot of time to take care of ourselves. We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list.”
Michelle Obama

Fitness Friends | or … Girlfriends who’ve Got Your Back!
May 5, 2011 – 3:30 pm
Do your girlfriends help you reach your potential? Do they encourage you to live your best life? (Or is that just Oprah and Gayle?!)
Personally, I’m so blessed by the support and encouragement that my friends offer me, that I can’t imagine how I’d get by without it!
A friend of mine, the magnificent Monica McGee, is on a journey. A 99 day journey to ‘fine!‘ She’s taking control of her life and concentrating on getting healthy and fit over the course of three months. And, of course, she is sharing it with her Read More »

Female Friendship: the Magic ‘Pill’ for Women’s Health
March 10, 2011 – 3:42 pm
Female friendship makes women healthier, happier, less stressed, live longer, and even feel more beautiful.*
Seriously. What book, subject, pill, product or action can deliver those results? What other topic can empower women and make such an impact on our overall happiness? What else can recharge the women who take care of their families, lead in their jobs/responsibilities, or tend to their families and friends?
As an adult, it’s not easy to make and keep friends. We don’t have the time we had as a child or teen to just be with our friends. We have responsibilities that fill our every waking moment. We’re busy taking care of our families, our jobs, our homes and gardens, our pets and plans for the future. We’re the Chief Operating Officer of our homes, the caretaker of our children and parents, and often that’s on top of a full-time job. So, it’s easy to see where female friendships, and actively making time for those friends, might easily Read More »

Girlfriends – Good for your health
July 19, 2010 – 3:25 pm
How’s your health, girlfriend?
To be honest, my girlfriend Allison’s* health (having dealt with some pretty serious cancer surgeries) isn’t great. Yet, even in the midst of ’stuff’ going on in her life, she still took time to forward me the following meaningful girlfriend message. (Thanks Allison!)
A Thought to Share
A a friend just finished taking an evening class at Stanford. The last lecture was on the mind-body connection--the relationship between stress and disease. The speaker Read More »

WISH Summit – Don’t just WISH it, Do it!
February 19, 2010 – 4:34 pm
I love the passion of women. We take on amazing responsibilities and challenges. But often we don’t even think about our health and balance.
That’s ‘the thing’ … we rarely take time for ourselves. We don’t look out for our health. We lack balance in our life and we don’t take the time for us. We are multitasking heros who have a tendency to devote an extraordinary amount of time to “getting things done” without every really feeling like things get “done” enough that we can kick up our heels and take a bit of down time.
The kids, the dog, the car, the laundry, the cleaning, the shopping, the cooking, the dusting, the stamp-licking and bill paying are all there calling your attention, and while you are undoubtedly a multitasking hero admired by many, I’m still willing to bet a good chunk of cash on the fact that you do NOT take enough time for yourself.
Our girlfriend TERA WARNER (who was a great guest on this BlogTalkRadio show) is passionate about Read More »
