Thanksgiving - thankful for girlfriends
A friend just found a job after looking for a year. When I congratulated him, he replied, “It’s been a tough year.”
It has been … for a lot of us. Some friends have dealt with health issues and job loss. A college girlfriend of mine is in hospice care which is surreal and very, very sad. Another dear friend just lost her husband. More than one friend is trying to figure out their place in the working world while another girlfriend struggles with being supportive for her husband who is unemployed. Call me ‘old fashioned,’ but I remind people to say ‘Please.’ (And welcome the reminder myself if needed.) I prefer ‘You’re welcome‘ to ‘no problem’ when I say ‘Thank you.’ (Don’t even get me started on that one!) And, when I sneeze, I love when even strangers respond with ‘Bless you,’ not ‘Gesundheit.’ These are just common courtesies that show respect and politeness.
At Thanksgiving we have an opportunity to show this respect and appreciation through saying ‘Thank You’ in all kinds of ways to all the people who bless our lives. Read More
I met Deb in Montgomery, AL during my jr. high school years. She was smart, cute, funny and her family was nice to me. I remember spending lots of weekends hanging out there – always glad to have a place to go. (It was more fun than my house!) We were content to hang out in her room talking or go roam the mall with each other. (Funny, she met her husband of 20+ years at that mall!)
I’m so thankful for that kindness and friendship. Now we’re connected through Facebook and she looks exactly the same (even though she has grandchildren now) – seriously, just exactly the same! But what’s really beautiful is the memories I have of an old friend (who, again, doesn’t look old!) and how thankful I am for having been her friend.
