Paying the Minimum? Credit Card Advice from Girlfriend Guru Miata Edoga
May 15, 2012 – 7:41 am
Friendship, like credit, is highest when it is not used. -Elbert Hubbard
We know we shouldn’t. We know we really, really shouldn’t. But those shoes are soooo cute, and the credit card is just burning a hole right through our wallet. Bam! Proud owner of fabulous new shoes/purse/dress/camera (fill in the blank with your own personal weakness).
And we enjoy those shoes (or whatever). We really, really do. Our friends admire them, we feel great wearing them, and then BAM! the credit card bill arrives and somehow we don’t feel quite as great anymore.
We’re not saying don’t buy new shoes (we would NEVER Read More »

April 17, 2012 – 8:24 am
“Money, if it does not bring you happiness, will at least help you be miserable in comfort.” – Helen Gurley Brown
One of the ‘most valuable’ things about girlfriends … that they share women’s wisdom and great girlfriend advice. Thankfully, we’ve got the girlfriend to help! Meet MIATA EDOGA. She’s our Girlfriend Guru of Abundance – and wouldn’t you like your financial status to be ‘abundance’?! Here’s her girlfriend advice on
Some days the worst part of surfing online is watching all the fun other people are having, while you’re stuck at home because Read More »

Keeping a Sense of Humor When Business or Life Gets On Your Nerves | Donina Ifurung
April 9, 2012 – 8:35 am
A sense of humor is a major defense against minor troubles. – Mignon McLaughlin
There are some days when everything seems to flow easily. There are other days when the sound of the stapler can be enough to send us over the edge. Sometimes we experience both on the same day!
It can be awfully difficult to pull back from wanting to scream at someone just for breathing or from wanting to break a stapler just because it’s doing it’s job. Girlfriend Guru DONINA IFURUNG reminds us that humor is a great way to diffuse tension, regain perspective, and make it through the moment.
For those of who don’t know, April is National Humor Month.
To commemorate National Humor Month, I won’t play an April Fool’s joke, but I will Read More »

I love my mother as the trees love water and sunshine – she helps me grow, prosper, and reach great heights. ~Terri Guillemets
What is it about advice from Mom? When we were young, we vowed we would never, ever, in a million, zillion years do all the horrible things our moms did. Now, many of us open our mouths and hear our mother’s words pour out. And we’re proud of them…
Girlfriend Leyla Al-Sharif send advice from the UK. Her mom did a great job of teaching her ways to get through the stressful times and she’s sharing those tips with us.

The Faux Diet Queen (or as we affectionately call her, FDQ) has agreed to share her latest (and last) weight loss journey with us as a regular feature at Girlfriendology. We hope you’ll join us to cheer her on, nudge her back on track when she strays, and generally giggle along.
This week, the Faux Diet Queen is fed up to here with people who are trying to help with her diet but only driving her to eat an entire tub of frozen yogurt. With toppings. Here is her advice for those well meaning folks.

Top Ten Reasons I Can Believe I’m Beautiful | Food Free Thoughts from The Faux Diet Queen
March 16, 2012 – 10:04 am
Avoid any diet that discourages the use of hot fudge. ~ Don Kardong
We all know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, beauty is more than skin deep, you can’t judge a book by it’s cover…and yet, we spend countless hours reading beauty magazines, trying new products (we’re still searching for the perfect mascara here at Girlfriendology), slathering on skin creams and hair potions. And that’s just so we can make it as far as the coffee maker.
The Faux Diet Queen doesn’t always believe she’s beautiful (even though we know she is). And she has always struggled in her battle with the scale. This week, she takes a look at real beauty. We want to know how you define ‘real beauty.’ Let us know in the comments section below.
When I was (much) younger, my grandmother would occasionally say something like, “tch! You are so pretty!” Inevitably, she would choose a day when I knew I looked particularly un-pretty un-attractive just plain bad. Because I knew I could look mildly presentable on other days, her praise felt false and hollow.
Recently however, I’ve begun thinking she saw something deeper than a bad hair day (yes, it has taken me many, many years to Read More »

You HAVE to Try This New Diet! | Advice from Wellness Guru Lisa McDaniel Brown
March 13, 2012 – 8:40 am
Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live. ~Jim Rohn
Most of us would like to believe that peer pressure ended somewhere around the time we left high school. We like to believe we’re our own person, we make our own decisions, and we do things because they are good for us to do, not because someone else is doing them.
Then we look in the mirror and laugh at ourselves. Of course we make some decisions because they are good for us; but we also make decisions to try some things because other people are trying it.
That can be a wonderful thing–like trying a new food, trying a new social media platform (Pinterest, anyone?), or attending a new exercise class. Health and Wellness Girlfriend guru LISA MCDANIEL BROWN points out that we often choose diets because they are all the rage rather than thinking about what’s best for our own bodies.
Last weekend I was fortunate enough to Read More »

New Math, Funny Calories, and Food Labels | The Faux Diet Queen Shares Insights
March 2, 2012 – 9:07 am
Do you read food labels? The FDQ (Faux Diet Queen) does. And what she found recently will have you laughing right along with her.
The Faux Diet Queen (or as we affectionately call her, FDQ) has agreed to share her latest (and last) weight loss journey with us as a regular feature at Girlfriendology. We hope you’ll join us to cheer her on, nudge her back on track when she strays, and generally giggle along.
When I was young, there was a big fuss about the “New Math.” Newspapers (definition: the paper things you don’t have to click when you want to turn a page) wrote about it, parents ranted about it, Tom Lehreh even wrote a song about it. Most of us didn’t actually get what they were all talking about. We had never been taught Old Math so New Math wasn’t so much New as it was just …. Math.
The point is, here we are almost (age censored out) years later, and FINALLY —today—I Read More »
