10 Great Girlfriend Blogs

February 15, 2009 – 2:56 pm

Friends at Columbia University.

What’s your favorite girlfriend blog?

No, the subject doesn’t have to be about ‘female friendship,’ like here at Girlfriendology, but what blogs would you recommend to your girlfriends?

I attended the New Media Cincinnati meet-up yesterday (a fun, growing group formed by my friend Daniel Johnson Jr.) and had the wonderful opportunity to get to know some local women bloggers much better. In fact, I’d highly recommend them and their blogs – they’re passionate and knowledgeable about social media and their blogs/businesses. So I wanted to introduce them.

Add to that my recent trip to Blissdom (a conference last weekend in Nashville for women bloggers). I met and heard so many wonderful women bloggers that I wanted to share more of these. So, please add your blogs and other women’s blogs to this list of ‘girlfriend approved blogs and businesses‘:

  1. Supernatural Botanicals – Girlfriend Robin has the best girlfriend gift products! Her soaps and scrubs are all hand-made and amazing! I LOVE her almond walnut scrub – LOVE IT! Every time I use it, it makes me happy!
  2. BuzZen – How’d you like to get your life buzzen? Or your business? Or just your mojo? Get to know our girlfriend Jody on BuzZen – the women’s version of the Law of Attraction.Plus Jody has a weekly BlogTalkRadio show for women – listen in!
  3. Spa around the world – Girlfriend Candy is a spa specialist! She works with spas and spa products to realize their utopia. And, she’s passionate about it. Check out her spa blog. It will calm and inspire you!
  4. EverythingnOrder – Want to be organized from the inside out? Visit girlfriend Carole for her fun adventure in self-discovery, social media insights and girlfriend advice on how to align your spirit and self.
  5. Congruity Career – I just met Julie, of Congruity Career Consulting, and we instantly hit it off! (Perhaps it was our common addiction to “The Office” show or our passionate lifestyles or we just were girlfriends who were meant to meet!) She speaks, trains and coaches to help women and men on reaching their potential. And, isn’t that what we want for ourselves and our girlfriends?
  6. Nickels-n-Dimes – New girlfriend Becky and I just connected. She has a great blog for women who want to watch their nickels ‘n dimes (and who doesn’t want to do that, right?!). She’s also going to feature Girlfriendology on her site soon with a give-away – so check our Nickels-n-Dimes!
  7. Sugar Jones – Just a fun, funny, fabulous female blogger I met at Blissdom. She has a daily BlogTalkRadio show and a cool blog.
  8. Holley Gerth – Isn’t it fun when a simple conversation with a stranger turns into a connection that changes your life? I met Holley at Blissdom and discovered that she share a lot in common – especially our appreciation of girlfriends and our faith in God. Holley has a new book out, Rain on Me, which is devotionals for women (and men) going through storms in our life. I highly recommend it as a great gift for you or a girlfriend who is dealing with ’stuff.’
  9. Art Slam – My girlfriend and Blissdom/BlogHer roommate, Lucrecer is creative and inspiring! She’s a professional photographer, a top scrapbook designer and a talented graphic designer. Her passion, as you’ll see at Art Slam, is to inspire you to get creative and to allow yourself the freedom to express yourself. That’s great girlfriend inspiration!
  10. Cooking with Caitlin - A recent guest on our podcast, the trio of girlfriends/sisters at Cooking With Caitlin are infusing folks online and offline with their culinary creativity. Visit for some mouth watering ideas and videos!

So girlfriends – what online blogs and businesses would you recommend to your girlfriends? What great women online are inspiring, amusing, enlightening and exciting you? (so much you’d tell your girlfriends!)

Women helping Women – in New Media

March 16, 2008 – 12:30 am

In it’s simplest form, all it takes is a girlfriend who introduces you to someone/thing you want/need to know. From there, historic, amazing things can happen … like growing your business, finding a babysitter or cleaning person, to sharing a great memory together or forming a forever friendship.

And, for creative women, this simple networking can mean a new mentor to help you learn knitting or how to market your business. Connections can be made that are the foundation for partnerships in business and creative ventures. Or, it could even mean that you have another person in your support team with whom you can share your creative ideas and they build on these to form a wonderful solution, business or creative venture.

I attended a New Media group today and met some creative, resourceful and helpful people. Each that I spoke with had an openness to find out more about Girlfriendology and many offered ideas and support. One woman I spoke with, Krista, openly shared ideas with me for Girlfriendology and related to the wild, and often stressful, times of a creative woman trying to do too much. Just in talking with her, I was relieved to find other women in New Media (blogging, podcasting, etc.) who understand my life. Sometimes that is all it takes is a girlfriend to share and relate. Sometimes, it’s just that simple.

You know things/people I don’t. You have a background that differs from mine and gives you a different perspective. I have an equally different base of knowledge. So together, we are twice as smart, strong and, as girlfriends do, have more fun. This week your challenge is to simply be a girlfriend and help other women out. Or, allow other women to share ideas and support with you. I know you’ll be inspired, relieved, comforted, stronger and, in doing so, happier. Be a girlfriend. It’s that simple.

P.S. And, if you happen to live in the Mid-West and are in (or want to be) New Media, attend the upcoming PODCAMP OHIO. It’s June 28th in Columbus OH and is a free ‘unConference’ on new media. In addition to learning tons all in one day, I would bet you’ll also meet women (and men) who will have a positive impact on your creative future! Check it out!!
