Creative Holiday Gift Ideas
November 18, 2008 – 1:08 pm

My girlfriend Katie shares some Creative Holiday Gift Ideas!
Leave it to my crafty girlfriend Katie Hacker for the following creative holiday gift ideas! (Katie also did a fun podcast interview with Girlfriendology about crafting for and/or with girlfriends – listen in!) Author of dozens of creative books, Katie creative passion is beading. She beads almost everything in a very creative and fun way (not a tacky ‘bead the dog’s waterbowl’ kind of way – not that that there’s anything wrong with a beaded waterbowl!).
And, since we’re always looking for great girlfriend gift ideas, we love sharing these creative holiday gift ideas (and often frugal girlfriend gifts) from our fabulous female friend Read More »

Top Ten Crafty & Creative sites you’d recommend to a girlfriend!
October 10, 2008 – 10:03 am
In my experience, crafty and creative women ‘get‘ girlfriends. They love hanging out together, sharing their creative skills and latest projects, and making gifts for their favorite female friends. Also, in the industry, they share contacts, business ideas, techniques and a whole lot of support.
Personally, I wouldn’t have made it without my girlfriends for the five years I worked in the craft industry. Jill, Katie, Lisa, Vicki, Tammy, Julie and so many other amazing women welcomed me and helped me acclimate to the industry with their suggestions, connections and support. Some of these women Read More »

TIP TUESDAY #24: Hey girlfriends – what’s your favorite hobby/passion?
May 20, 2008 – 11:15 pm
I’ve heard that if you look back to your childhood, before boys had an impact or peer pressure was in it’s teen madness, you’ll find the things that you genuinely love to do. Maybe it was acting, drawing, talking, cooking or even dressing up. When we were eight to ten years old, we did whatever we loved – and why not?!
My mother is an artist so it is no surprise that I grew up doing crafts, drawing people in church, making sand art (a long-lost talent!) or other creative exercises. I designed the cover of my Jr. High school year book and won an award for a paper mache dragon that I made with a girlfriend. Is it any wonder that several decades later, I ended up in the craft/hobby industry?!
Last week I interviewed CAROL DUVALL for the Girlfriendology podcast. On TV for 56 years, this Read More »

My Knitting, Beading, Crafting Girlfriends
March 14, 2008 – 9:39 pm
We’re off to meet Dana and Bear (aka: Barry) for dinner. Dana was introduced to knitting a few years ago when I was part of “Purple Tree” – a home party biz that offered all kinds of creative kits. I’m sure out of some obligation to me to purchase something, brought home a knitting kit. Well, the rest is history. She now is a knitting goddess. And, as a knitting goddess would do, Dana emailed confirmation of our dinner plans along with a warning that she’ll probably knit at the restaurant while we have a glass of wine. No worries. Creative girlfriends are allowed – to be creative!
That event also reminded me of a very fun evening with my girlfriend (who is a beader, designer, author, blogger) Katie Hacker when we went to a local casino on a bus trip her father organized. I don’t gamble and I don’t recall Katie being at all interested in it either, so I had brought some beads and supplies along and Katie and I happily beaded in the casino bar. I believe we made a gift for the female bartender!
Do you have girlfriends who encourage and inspire your creativity? Isn’t life much better with them around?! Call up a girlfriend. Ask what she’s knitting (or beading, painting, sewing, etc.) and let her bring it along on your next adventure. Do the same, so she gets to see your latest expression of your creativity. That’s how we learn. That’s how we inspire each other. That’s why we’re such good friends!

TIP TUESDAY #17 – Your Favorite Girlfriend Blog
March 11, 2008 – 9:51 am
Have you met any friends on the Internet? Any great mom blogs, craft blogs, foodie bloggers?
Found any bloggers with whom you can relate and share their thoughts? Located an old college girlfriend or ‘googled’ an childhood friend?
Personally I love how the Internet can build community – especially among women. This week an online event is going on that does just that. The Read More »
