Happy International Women’s Friendship Month! (IWFM) How this month of celebrating your girlfriends get started?
We’re glad you asked! We’ve been celebrating International Women’s Friendship Month since it was National Women’s Friendship Day! It’s grown over the years and we’re thrilled that it’s growing in awareness among women and that more women are celebrating their fabulous female friends! (Here’s how we’re celebrating Int’l Women’s Friendship Month on Girlfriendology including interviewing Miss America on BlogTalkRadio on 9/2/11!)
We didn’t just come up with Women’s Friendship Month because we’re all about ‘the girlfriend friendship thing’ and it’s not a ‘Hallmark Holiday’ created just for cards and buying gifts. Why we celebrate friendship

Today we’re celebrating day 14 of National Women’s Friendship Day. How are YOU celebrating girlfriends?
We celebrate Ground Hog’s Day, Birthdays, New Years Day. We honor St. Patrick, St. Nick, Independence and Anniversaries. Thanks to greeting card companies we have Grandparents Day, Teacher Appreciation Day and Administrative Assistant’s Day. We even have National Peanut Butter Lovers Month, Air Conditioning Appreciation Days (July, go figure), National Hot Dog Month (also July) and Mold Awareness Month (doesn’t that sound fun to celebrate?!).
But, in general, we don’t make much fuss over the women in our lives. Read More »

Girlfriends for a Reason …

Happy Day 3 of the first National Women’s Friendship Month! (And thanks to Kappa Delta sorority for starting this great celebration of girlfriends!)
I love the wisdom that girlfriends share. Don’t you?!
I just spoke at an event for women in leadership. A room full of smart, successful, sharp women is a little intimidating – especially when you’re wondering if they ‘get‘ friendship and the need that we have for female friendship. Some, I’m not sure bought it. They may feel like male friendships meet their social support needs. Others might put it on hold until their kids are grown. Who knows? Some might have thought the discussion was a little too ‘fluffy’ for them.

Female friendship makes women healthier, happier, less stressed, live longer and feel more beautiful.
So, in 1999 ‘National Women’s Friendship Day‘ was created by Kappa Delta Sorority to celebrate this relationship that benefits us (and all those around us!) so much.
