How do you choose friends?

October 28, 2009 – 6:20 am

Daily Inspiration, Girlfriendology styleHow do you select the women in your life who you will let into your ‘friendship family’?

Who makes it to the BFF level or even to the”I could sit and talk with you for hours” status? We all need female friendship – without it we’d be stressed, less confident, unhappy and unhealthy. But how do we choose the special friends who become part of who we are and, with whom, we can completely be ourself? Today’s DAILY INSPIRATION addresses this, in such a perfect way … Read More »

Friends & Fridays

October 16, 2009 – 5:27 am

Happy Friday Girlfriend!

Weeks just seem to fly by, you know? But hopefully we help you stop and appreciate the friends in your life who make every day, not just Fridays, fabulous and fun-filled!

I’m in Vegas for BlogWorldExpo (and hanging with cool brands like Healthy Choice!) so this week’s newsletter is a downsized a bit. But that just gives you a little extra time to call up a friend, email a buddy or tell someone how beautiful she is. Seriously. Go do it! Read More »

Call it what you want …

September 18, 2009 – 11:50 am

Cooking with Caitlin women with Girlfriendology flowers… girlfriends, BFFs, girls, gal pals, book club, knitting friends, neighbors, coworkers, sisters … whatever.

Call it what you want, but it basically comes down to “women supporting women.” Helping each other with the big and little things. Being there for each other in all areas of our lives. We’re just females who look out for each other and help one another grow into our best self.

This week’s newsletter starts with the message that, while some women might feel they’re too old or serious for ‘girlfriends,’ that it really is just another way of saying ‘women supporting women.’ And that’s a very good thing.

If you don’t get this newsletter, sign up on the left (Join the Newsletter) tab. We promise to send you weekly support, inspiration and all the virtual hugs you can handle. (-;

Calories from Girlfriend Gifts don’t count!

August 12, 2009 – 5:08 pm

I wish I had thought of doing this for a friend. It inspires me, and I hope it inspires you.

Jen and Mindy

Here’s a guest blog by Mindy about her friend Jen (the beautiful BFFs in this picture!). Thanks for sharing Mindy!

(By the way, Mindy is an etiquette consultant and has an awesome site – Manner of the Month. Check it out and her blog!)

Some are students of schools of thought.  I am a student of my friend Jen’s school of thoughtfulness. Not only did she graciously agree to pick-up our paper and mail while we were away, we arrived home to find this waiting on our back steps… Read More »

Girlfriend SANDRA YANCEY shares inspiration at eWomen Network lunch

May 22, 2008 – 6:45 pm
Sandra yancey, founder of eWomen Network and Debba Haupert, founder of Girlfriendology

Even in a blurry photo, SANDRA YANCEY looks pretty! And she is (just not so fuzzy!) in real life but that beauty mainly comes from the inside. She created the eWomen Network – “This is the #1 resource for connecting and promoting women and their businesses on both a local and global scale.” Sandra has grown this organization from a dream to an international, multi-million dollar company. As she says, she believes a smile is the key to so many connections. Check out the eWomen Network for their upcoming conference (the largest gathering of businesswomen in North America!).

Sandra gave a speech on ‘the power of girlfriends’ and shared inspiring stories of how she “jumped then grew wings.” Thanks Sandra! Inspiration. That’s what girlfriends do!

Help your Girlfriend reach her Dream (and Wishes!)

May 19, 2008 – 12:25 pm

Recently I interviewed New York Times #1 best-selling author DEBBIE MACOMBER for an upcoming Girlfriendology podcast. She’s written countless books and actually has over 100 million books in print! (really!) She was great in our interview as we discussed her new book, Twenty Wishes. Twenty Wishes is about just that – a group of women (widows, in this case) who decide to make a list of wishes and see what happens. And, things do happen!

I asked her where the idea of Twenty Wishes came from and she was delighted! She shared about one of her fans kept a list of wishes and shared them with Debbie on one of her book tours. From there, Debbie creatively crafted a book of women and the journey of their lives as they set those wishes free! (Debbie also has a fabulous contest for setting YOUR wishes free. Visit SetYourWishesFree to learn how to win $10,000 toward your dream.)

Home portrait by Cincinnati Artist Carol AbbottTalking with Debbie reminded me of my girlfriend Carol Abbott. A few years ago, Carol and I were in an entrepreneurial group. I was working with a coach (the wonderful Jane Pollack) who had presented a question to me, so I shared it with the group: “What would you do if money was no object?” Carol immediately, without a second of hesitation said, “I’d paint.” A successful technical writer/project manager, I don’t believe Carol was painting very much at the time – maybe casually taking a class from time to time – but obviously she had a passion for it so she courageously shared with us.

Fast forward to today, Carol has a wonderful business of painting primarily home portraits. Her colorful, ‘happy’ paintings convey the joy of the home and give it personality all it’s own. She also does other subjects (boats, historic monuments, neighborhood gathering places, etc.) - all with her creative and colorful style. Check out Cincinnati Home Portrait for her awesome artwork. (And she does do other locations, paintings from photos, products with your home/painting on them, etc.)

Carol inspires me. She is living her dream and has put the time and effort into it to become successful. She is in art shows, the Pendleton Art Center, Newport on the Levy – lots of local locations. She had a wish and she went for it!Artist Carol Abbott\'s portrait of Cincinnati Water Tower

Do you have dreams? Wishes like the women in Debbie Macomber’s new book Twenty Wishes? And, do your girlfriends? Share them with each other. Help each other reach for them and celebrate successes along the way. That’s what girlfriends do!

p.s. You can win a copy of Debbie Macomber’s new book Twenty Wishes on Girlfriendology.com (or one of the various other books we have in our monthly contest!). Just send us a girlfriend story. You can be the inspiration that helps your girlfriend reach for her dreams and set free her wishes! Go for it girlfriends!

Helping a girlfriend through a transition – Chocolate helps!

May 5, 2008 – 12:30 am

ChocolateHow do you handle a job change / life transition? With girlfriends – of course!

My thoughtful girlfriend Jennifer (from my entrepreneurial group), gave me this wonderful orange daisy chocolate to celebrate my leaving a job and moving forward toward my dreams. (Recognize the flower in the Girlfriendology logo?!) She wasn’t the only girlfriend who marked this change in my career and life with a gift or card. My friend Katie (who is so dang thoughtful!) MIA – Sorry Girlfriends!

March 24, 2008 – 9:42 pm

My goal for GirlfriendologyToo – since this blog is about inspiring and celebrating creative girlfriends – was to celebrate National Craft Month with daily blogging. All went well until the middle of the month when I was hit with a difficult situation that, to be honest, floored me for a little while. As much as my girlfriends were there to lean on and send good vibes my way, my energy was zapped by the stress and pain of an unfortunate situation. (I wrote it about it on Girlfriendology.)

I retreated to other tasks at hand and neglected this blog for a week. I feel bad but I also know that I needed some time off to take care of me. Girlfriends should be able to do that, right?! I also didn’t feel that it was right to pretend everything was peachy and I was living a vibrant, happy, creative life. Blogs get personal. I just wasn’t at a place to share it, nor did I want to change my tag line from “inspiration, appreciation and celebration” to “desperation, frustration and aggravation”! This is meant as a positive place for women to rekindle their soul and rejuvenate their friendships. Thanks to you, I believe that is happening and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.

So, I apologize for the MIA status and ask for your input on inspiring creative women. I’m thrilled to have lots of creative girlfriends but I want to find out about others – women who are reaching their potential, striving for their dreams, following their bliss. Share your girlfriends and inspiration. We can all use it.

And to my kind, considerate, loving friends – thanks for being there girlfriends! You’re my rock. (And you rock!)

* See the next post I’m going to do about someone who is really following their bliss!

When girlfriends bless your life without even trying …

July 16, 2007 – 11:36 pm

Girlfriends Heather Sarah and MollyI mentioned Char in the last blog. She hosted the amazing baby shower I was honored to attend on Saturday. Her home reflects her sunny personality and her warm nature. (And her dog is dang cute too!)

After reading the blog on Cyndi’s shower, she shared the following quote with me:

When you believe that nothing significant can happen through you, you have said more about your belief in God than you have said about yourself. Read More »
