6 Years of Girlfriendology, 6 Years of Girlfriend Support | Life is Good

January 20, 2012 – 11:45 am

Friendship 6 years of GirlfriendologyWhat’s your girlfriend story? What things have you done because your girlfriend(s) believed in you? What dreams do your friend encourage?

Six years ago I struggled with why I ‘needed’ my girlfriends so much. Two of my dear friends, Dana and Allison, were fighting cancer and I was consciously aware of needing to be with my female friends (both of them and other wonderful women in my life). It was so strong that I created a blog to explore it. I called it ‘Girlfriendology’ and started exploring why women need each other so deeply.

Fortunately I found a profound book, The Tending Instinct by Shelley E. Taylor, which studied our need for female friendship and shared research findings and examples that proved – we actually do NEED girlfriends. In fact, female friendship makes women healthier, happier, less Read More »

Celebrating … 5 Years of Inspiration, Appreciation & Celebration of Girlfriends

January 6, 2011 – 6:23 pm

Friendship 5 years of GirlfriendologyTime flies when you’re having fun … with your girlfriends!

Five years ago this month I started Girlfriendology. It was just a dream (that grew (-: ) of inspiring women to appreciate and celebrate the wonderful gift of female friendship. Initially, it was inspired by two girlfriends who were dealing with cancer, Allison and Dana. Their struggles and prognosis made me want to be with my girlfriends, not just them but all of the wonderful women in my life.

I did a little research to explore the dynamics of female friendship and if we really needed it in our lives and found a wonderful book that confirmed everything I had been thinking - The Tending Instinct, by Shelley E. Taylor. There’s proof – we NEED girlfriends! So, Girlfriendology.com launched to promote, inspire and celebrate female friendship.

It’s grown over the past five years to be a wonderful (and, might I add, beautiful!) community of women. We have over 20,000 (primarily) women as our Twitter followers, 13,000+ female Facebook Friends, and receive over 100,000 female impressions DAILYRead More »

Girlfriendology Update: Hugs & ‘Random’ Girlfriend Advice

October 18, 2010 – 9:03 pm

Friendship Seagate BlogworldI just returned from BlogWorldExpo* – a big social media conference in Las Vegas. (I’d tell you more about it but they make you agree to ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!’) The one thing I can tell you is that having friends is a wonderful thing.

I’ve attended enough conferences in this online community to have developed friendships – some great friendships. I’ve met AMAZING women like Katja Presnal, aka: Skimbaco, who is inspiring with her lifestyle blog and brand in the U.S. and is huge in her homeland of Finland. I’ve become friends with both the BEAUTIFUL Beth Rosen, aka: TheMidlifeWife, and Duong Sheahan, aka: Digital Girlfriends, both of whom have fabulous energy that inspires everyone who meets them. And I’ve been inspired by wonderful women like Glenda Watson Hyatt, Read More »

Be a better friend – in the Highs and Lows

July 30, 2010 – 10:15 am

Friendship Girlfriend Molly with Girlfriendology flowerEver have one of those weeks? HIGH highs and LOW lows – and everything in between?

Last week my DH (aka: ‘dear husband’) was out of town. My plan was to diet, exercise and do lots of work. Reality: I did pretty well on my eating healthy (he wasn’t around to spoil me with carbs!) and got the treadmill in a few times as well as a bunch of dog walks. I did work lots but maybe not quite as much as I anticipated.

Why not? My girlfriends. I had a happy hour with Tina, Becky and Lynn. (High high) Wine on the porch with Anne. Another happy hour with the Cincinnati.com LOL Bloggers (thanks Chris & co.!). I had meeting with Bridgett and went to a movie with Penny. All HIGH highs. It was a wonderful way to enjoy the week by reconnecting with so many of my favorite females.

The big HIGH and LOW came on Saturday. I attended a Read More »

Be a Better Friend – Freedom and Friendship

July 2, 2010 – 9:18 am

Friendship American FlagI love my independence. I love that I can read, shop, eat and dress as I please. I love that I can travel, own property, have a business and make my own decisions. I can vote, worship and express my opinion. I love the freedom and protection bought by the dedication of decades of women and men.

And fortunately, that independence allows me the opportunity to be dependent. I’m blessed to have a dependable husband, new roof (yeah!), dog (the cat isn’t always dependable!) and 4-year old car. And I’m so honored to have friends, on whom I can depend. Thoughtful, helpful, wonderful, beautiful girlfriends who are there for me to get together with for a movie (thanks Julie!), to take care of Read More »

Inspiring Women, Girly-Girls & Great Girlfriend Advice!?

April 23, 2010 – 4:31 pm

Women Volunteer

Who inspires you?

Cheryl collects left-over bread from a bagel store and re-packages it for a homeless shelter. Jennifer employs women in South Africa to create jewelry, sells it and then returns the profits to their community and AIDS Hospice. Connie started a non-profit and raised money to build an orphanage in Tanzania and visits the children as often as she can.

These women inspire me. They challenge me to do something!

That’s what girlfriends do- they inspire, teach, lead and make life better. It’s National Volunteer Week – which friends should you thank for how they make the world a better place? Which girlfriends inspire you?

Show your girlfriend gratitude. Say thanks. Maybe even go volunteer – together. Be a better friend Read More »

Girlfriends with Girlfriendology gerbera daisy flowerLisa, Vicki, Phyllis and I used to play this game at the end of a busy day at an industry tradeshow. It was our way to touching base with each other on the highs and lows of our day. Did our meetings and classes go well, or not? Did we meet the people we wanted to meet and have the conversations that we needed to have? Who better to share those highs and lows with than girlfriends who understand our goals and dreams?
