Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher | Grateful for Friends by Guru Rachel Awes
April 4, 2012 – 7:21 am
A friend knows the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails. ~Donna Roberts
Have you ever noticed that sometimes our girlfriends remind us who we really are? Recently, I have had this happen three times (always in threes, right?). Fabulous friends have been around to remind me of some of the good things I’d forgotten about myself.
Girlfriend Guru (and fabulous artist) RACHEL AWES reminds us in word and art that we have so much to offer the world. Thank heavens we have friends who–on those days when our feet feel permanently stuck in the mud–can remind us we have wings for flying high.
I recently met my treasured friend, Liv, for breakfast.

Top Ten Reasons I Can Believe I’m Beautiful | Food Free Thoughts from The Faux Diet Queen
March 16, 2012 – 10:04 am
Avoid any diet that discourages the use of hot fudge. ~ Don Kardong
We all know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, beauty is more than skin deep, you can’t judge a book by it’s cover…and yet, we spend countless hours reading beauty magazines, trying new products (we’re still searching for the perfect mascara here at Girlfriendology), slathering on skin creams and hair potions. And that’s just so we can make it as far as the coffee maker.
The Faux Diet Queen doesn’t always believe she’s beautiful (even though we know she is). And she has always struggled in her battle with the scale. This week, she takes a look at real beauty. We want to know how you define ‘real beauty.’ Let us know in the comments section below.
When I was (much) younger, my grandmother would occasionally say something like, “tch! You are so pretty!” Inevitably, she would choose a day when I knew I looked particularly un-pretty un-attractive just plain bad. Because I knew I could look mildly presentable on other days, her praise felt false and hollow.
Recently however, I’ve begun thinking she saw something deeper than a bad hair day (yes, it has taken me many, many years to Read More »

Rituals, Coffee, and Me Time | Thoughts from the Faux Diet Queen
February 24, 2012 – 9:11 am
With our busy lives, we sometimes forget to find a little time to take care of ourselves. The Faux Diet Queen shares some of her ideas for creating small bits of self-indulgent time.
The Faux Diet Queen (or as we affectionately call her, FDQ) has agreed to share her latest (and last) weight loss journey with us as a regular feature at Girlfriendology. We hope you’ll join us to cheer her on, nudge her back on track when she strays, and generally giggle along.
Rituals are important in our lives.
I’m not talking about religious rituals, although those are important too. I’m talking about the “me time” rituals. The time we build into our crazy busy lives to take just a few minutes off from caring for others to take care of ourselves.
Not surprisingly, that “me” time has changed over the years. At one time, it was Read More »

Six Years of Female Friendship | Girlfriends Rule!
January 16, 2012 – 11:47 pm
We all have a story. And most times they involve our friends, our wonderful, dearly loved girlfriends!
The story of Girlfriendology began with a girlfriend story (as, of course, it should!). Two girlfriends, Dana and Allison, were dealing with cancer. I was overwhelmed with a need to be around my female friends – not just Dana and Allison, but all my friends. I wanted to spend time with my girlfriends to learn how to be a better friend to Dana and Allison. I wanted to be near the wonderful women in my life to give me strength and knowledge.
So, I created Girlfriendology as a ‘love letter’ to my friends.
That was six years (1/20/06), 1600+ blog posts, 275+ interviews with inspiring women (podcasts and BlogTalkRadio shows), 25+ blogger/social media conferences, a TV commercial and national newspaper ad feature, dozens of advertisers and sponsors (most recently our new sponsor Biz Stain Fighter signed on for our Read More »

Breast Cancer and Friendship | Girlfriend Point of View by Shasta Nelson
October 3, 2011 – 1:50 pm
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As we celebrate with the survivors and remember those who bravely fought, we come together as girlfriends to remind ourselves and each other about the importance of fighting all women’s cancers.
In this guest blog, SHASTA NELSON (of Girlfriend Circles) reminds us to work together, to support each other, and to recognize what is most important in our lives.
“Slow down! Don’t do it alone!” the stranger said to me as he passed me on my morning jog. I tried to smile, but what I really thought was: “What kind of a guy has the audacity to tell me what pace to set as though he thinks he’s Read More »
