A blog is like a home. It shows personality and passions, displays all the things that decorate life and is a wonderful place to greet friends. So, welcome girlfriend! Here at the Girlfriendology blog, we chat about life as a woman, a girlfriend, an entrepreneur and all the big and little things in life that make it much more fun to experience with a friend. Grab a cup of tea or coffee and make yourself at home!
Five years ago, I felt a strong, very conscious ‘need’ to be around my girlfriends.
Two of my friends were dealing with cancer and I was very distressed over them. But my instinct to be near girlfriends wasn’t just to be around them, it was to spend time with any of my female friends.
I did a little research and discovered that women’s need for female friends is biological. (See ‘The Tending Instinct,’ by Shelley E. Taylor.) Female friendship makes us healthier, happier, less stressed, live longer and feel more beautiful.
In fact, this book also covered women and stress. Previously it was believed that women and men responded to stress in the same way: ‘fight or flight.’ Eventually the stress research was done on women and showed (amazing!) – that we’re different! We respond to stress with ‘tend and befriend.’ When stressed, we want to take care of our children and we have the need to be Read More »
The most special times are spent with a special friend.
Look back on the memories, the high and low points, the times you’ve needed someone to lean on or were there for a friend in need. What made those times memorable, tolerable and even inspirational?
Having our friends by our side during all the challenges and celebrations life throws at us is just one of the amazing benefits of having girlfriends. Friends to divide our pain, double our joy and share our memories is a beautiful gift that we should never take for granted.
Need a little girlfriend time? And maybe some pampering?
Spending time with our girlfriends is perhaps the most wonderful experience of female friendship. The way that we communicate and share is unique to our friendship. Sometimes we laugh, we share, cry, laugh some more or walk side-by-side in silence. Always we connect like no other relationship and feel all the benefits that female friendship provides.
We’re exploring lots of ways, during our Month of Friendship, to reconnect with old friends and build into new friendships. Today’s girlfriend advice: get a mani/pedi together.
How is that building into friendships? Well, we girls generally like a little pampering, right? We also all love Read More »
My close friend, Debbie, who I don’t get to see too often since we live a distance apart, came to stay with us recently for a night with her two kids. Though older than my son Seth (age 7), he loves playing with them. And, I am psyched for the girl time with Debbie. Read More »
Is your schedule stretched to capacity? Overwhelmed with your To Do list? Exhausted just thinking about what all you have/need to do? Or am I the only one?
Right now I’m stressed. I want to spend time on Girlfriendology but I have multiple jobs right now – not including home responsibilities, taking care of the new pup, etc. I have to set boundaries on my time because it is just such a valuable, limited commodity at this point in my life.
This week was hectic at the job (and I haven’t even taken Read More »
Okay, so once again there goes my aforementioned ‘no lunch out’ rule! Today I had lunch with Carole, a co-worker who has become a good friend. She and I share a lot of corporate experiences (and often frustrations!), an interest in our city/cultural events, restaurants and movies, and more – including our entrepreneurial dreams.
1861 Inn Bed & Breakfast
I shared my passion for Girlfriendology and pursuing a business that connects women with their girlfriends to just make life better! She confided her future plans to open a B&B and to pursue her passion for food/cooking. (Having visited her B&B-ready home and tasted her cuisine, I know she has exactly what it takes to be successful!)
UPDATE: 1861 Inn Bed & Breakfast has been opened and immediately starting filling up! Check out Carole’s beautiful B&B / home! I love when girlfriends go for their dreams and know Carole’s will be successful!
It’s so nice to connect with a girlfriend. To find out you have more things in common. To learn little insights into their sense of humor, beliefs and even dreams. It was the first lunch we’ve shared together, but it won’t be the last. And, throughout our corporate or entrepreneurial status, I have a girlfriend who will help me (gladly!) break my ‘no lunch out’ rule! Thanks Carole!
