12 Days of Friendship | Girlfriend Gratitude
January 4, 2012 – 10:55 am
The holidays are behind us. A new year is ahead of us. And who’s here with us – through it all? GIRLFRIENDS!
Today we’re celebrating our final day in our 12 Days of Friendship – spread over the Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years holidays. We’re unwrapping our final present – the gift of girlfriend gratitude.
My girlfriend Jill and I had this conversation recently while hanging out at the dog park. Why is it that we generally gravitate to what is wrong in our lives? Why do we focus on the things we don’t have rather than the blessings of all the things we do have? Why do we overlook the joy to mainly see the struggle and perhaps injustice in our world?
It’s unfortunate but true – we don’t Read More »

Thankful for my Friends | Keeping the Attitude of Gratitude
November 24, 2011 – 11:19 am
I get asked a lot why I started Girlfriendology. I think most women find the topic of female friendship such a given or, on the other end of the spectrum, most men have never considered the relationships between women to be of any interest. And sometimes, women and men, just get it. Whatever response, I don’t mind.
I tell them how in 2005, two of my good girlfriends were dealing with cancer. How I struggled for how to be a good friend to them and how it made me consciously crave being around my female friends, both the ones dealing with cancer and the rest of my friends.
I tell them how I then did some research on the relationship of female friendship and found proof that girlfriends make us Read More »

Attitude of Gratitude | Girlfriends to the rescue!
November 14, 2011 – 11:57 pm
Do you have an attitude of gratitude? Are you feeling grateful, thankful, blessed? Let’s talk about that …
Veteran’s Day … thankful for the brave women and men who have fought for our freedom, for the friends and family who have sacrificed their beloved to keep us safe and for the leaders who watch out over us. It’s a good time to remember that #LifeIsGood – right?
Thanksgiving … thankful for the pilgrims and travelers, the brave and the (sorry to say it, but possibly true) stupid who got on boats and found there way here. Grateful for the tradition they started of being appreciative of the little things in life … a little corn, a small bird to feast on, a warm hut to sleep in. Things we now take for granted – it’s great to be reminded to be grateful.
Maybe it’s Read More »

An Attitude of Gratitude | Tim Sanders & More #SobCon Lessons
May 3, 2011 – 7:01 am
What’s your attitude on Gratitude? Do you show / express/feel girlfriend gratitude?
This past weekend I had one of those experiences that you know will change your life. (I’ll tell you about it below and, yes, it’s about gratitude!)
I attended a conference (SobCon – for Successful Online Businesses) and met some amazing people. One of the speakers was powerful, passionate and purposeful. His message, like I shared in this SobCon recap, was all based on LOVE. One way of showing it is through gratitude – expressed or just felt.
Tim Sanders was raised by his grandmother, Billye, when his mom could no longer care for him. At 54, and caring for her aging mother, she took in a 4-year old and Read More »

Gratitude Actually …
December 1, 2010 – 6:23 pm
How’s your girlfriend gratitude?
Have you seen the movie ‘Love Actually‘? (It actually is one of our Girlfriendology favorite chick flicks!) It’s a romantic comedy based on several relationships – from a grieving husband and his son, to a wife dealing with her husband’s infidelities, to a couple who meet while working in the ‘adult film’ industry (which was a bit gratuitous to me at first, but eventually I came to over look it for the stories) and several other relationships. It’s extremely well-written and thought-out. You don’t realize it until the end, but all the relationships are intertwined in some way.
Hold that thought while weconsider this …
My BFF Cathy won an award today (Top Ten Women in Dayton Ohio). I drove up to attend the awards lunch and was so happy for the recognition she received for her contribution to numerous non-profits and activities in her region. She could have talked about all the time she spends in committees, how she’s allocated millions of dollars for her company’s foundation and her tireless volunteerism. But she didn’t. Not Read More »

A letter of Thanks (& wild ’stuff’ coming!)
November 24, 2010 – 3:07 pm
Dear Girlfriend,
To know me is to know I’m a whimp! I tear up over OnStar commercials, how my dog looks at me (probably more hunger than love, but I like to believe!) and when I see a grandmother and grandchild holding hands. I love to watch strangers interact in a kind way on trains or even in traffic. And, I can’t help but be overwhelmed with the blessings in my life like friends, family and faith that the coming year will see me even closer to my dream of inspiring women and female friendship.
You guessed it, what makes me the whimp-iest are my friends! I am humbled by their inspiration, support and love. I am forever in-debt for their generousity, hospitality and acceptance. I feel deep, DEEP girlfriend gratitude – and hope you do too.
That’s what Girlfriendology is all about – inspiration, appreciation and celebration of female friendship.
But we would never be able to do those things without the support, encouragement and involvement of Read More »

For all our Girlfriends … we give thanks.
November 24, 2010 – 1:29 pm
For every girlfriend who blesses our life, let’s give thanks.
For the friends in our past who taught us how to be a better friend, who shared their lives with us, who gave us grace when we weren’t as good of a friend as we should have been … we give thanks.
To the sisters who are more our girlfriends because they know us so well – and don’t hold that against us(!) (-: … we give thanks.
To the women we may not even know personally who have gone before us to fight for our rights, to stand up to discrimination, to make the world a better place for us, our daughters, our friends and generations to come … we give thanks.
For the smiles of strangers, the kindness of others, the grace we’re shown on a daily basis … we give thanks.
And, for the friends who make us laugh when we want to cry, who spend time with us even when their schedules are full, who support our dreams and inspire us to be the best friend and woman we can be, who give and give and give some more and whose hugs can heal all things … we give thanks.
Who are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
