Linda Lowen feels like a bad friend sometimes. She doesn’t return phone calls for days, is difficult to schedule time with and rarely has time for a GNO (Girl’s Night Out). But fortunately she has friends who understand and for whom she is eternally grateful. Read More
Sunday is National Women’s Friendship Day. Started in 1999 by Kappa Delta, this day is set aside to reflect on the appreciation and celebration of friendship. It reminds us to be grateful for girlfriends and to spend some time with the women (or girls) or make life healthier, happier and lots more fun.
Here in Cincinnati, we’re holding a “Women who Wine” event (where we’ll bottle our own wine as well as enjoy wine, snacks, gift bags and lots of prizes!) on Sunday – 1-3pm, Tino Vino (3665 Erie Ave). Join us as we celebrate friendships with our girlfriends and a really great event!
Regardless of where you are, if you’re reading this, you’re thankful for your friends. Celebrate National Women’s Friendship Day by doing something special for your girlfriends. Send them a card, make them a gift, even write a thoughtful email and send it with a picture of the two of you or make plans to get together.
To help you with the cards, letters or emails, here are some great friendship quotes to share with your BFFs:
“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.”

If you had a chance to read over the National Women’s Friendship Day blog, you already know this. We do NEED girlfriends. Those relationships are key to our overall health and even our longevity. Actually, the research shows that not having close friends or confidants is as detrimental to your health as smoking or carrying extra weight. But it goes beyond just knowing this …
Just as each of us have our own personal challenges, skills and situations, each of us have unique reasons for needing female friendships. You may need girlfriends now more than previously if you’re going through changes in your life be it health, relationship, job – those are heavy issues to deal with and even heavier when there is no one to help us ‘carry the load’ and figure out coping mechanisms and solutions. Or you may need girlfriends around to celebrate the good things in life with you – like a Friday night out having fun times together or being happy for each other when a new job, guy, baby, home or good diagnosis happens. Girlfriends are for the good and not-so-good times. Yep. We NEED our girlfriends!
Fortunately, we have girlfriends. They’re kinda our ’secret weapon’ in dealing with life’s challenges and even just making days a lot more fun. Check out this article on why we NEED girlfriends.
So, girlfriends, think about the amazing women who bless your life. Those fellow mommies, neighbors, co-workers, college girlfriends … any women who make you grateful for having girlfriends. And, since they’re helping you stay happy, healthy and less-stressed, show some girlfriend gratitude.
