Female Friendship: They Teach it at Stanford

April 13, 2011 – 8:39 pm

Friendship Kenzies Closet girlfriends 2Nurture Your Relationships with your Girlfriends

You know those mass emails that your great aunt sends you? The ones that warn you of parking lots and microwaves, that ‘enlighten you’ on how to show your friends how much you appreciate them by sending the letter to all of them and asking that they pass it along to all their friends? The emails that promise you good luck or riches, again, IF you send it on to ALL your friends?!

Well, when I receive a ‘mass email’ from a dear friend who knows me and knows I don’t want a lot of mass emails, I give her the benefit of the doubt and read it. Such is the case with the following message on friendship, shared with me by my beautiful girlfriend Carole. (And, for the record, I don’t know if this is 100% factual or partially fictional – but I do know that it is truthful about the Read More »

GIRLFRIENDOLOGY 101: Simple Steps to More Fulfilling Friendships – Compliments & Review

April 5, 2011 – 9:04 am

Friendship Girlfriendology 101So nice to hear nice things about your work, ya know?

Like my girlfriend who went out of her way to congratulate me on GIRLFRIENDOLOGY 101: Simple Steps to More Fulfilling Friendships (the first in our Girlfriendology Guides line of eBooks and Webinars*). She wanted to acknowledge my accomplishment – of setting goals and going after them, of working diligently to make my business move forward, and of taking on something new and doing it.

My first inclination was to dismiss that it was that big of a deal. But you know what? It was a big deal. It was hours and hours of work, editing and re-writes, proofing, designing, formatting, digitizing for digital readers, posting on sites that would allow affiliates to also sell it and, to be honest, quite a big learning curve to take it from an idea to a product (that I hope will help women have more fulfilling friendships and all the benefits of female friendship).

That’s what girlfriends do. We take the time to Read More »

Mashable, Women’s Friendship & The ‘Well-now-that-you-mentioned-it’ Syndrome

March 31, 2011 – 9:31 am

Friendship Social MediaHow do you REALLY feel about your Facebook girlfriends?

Mashable reported/implied this week that we women (no mention of guys and their online friendships) basically don’t really like our Facebook female friends. In fact, from Mashable’s article:

Most women — 83% of respondents in this survey — are annoyed at one time or another by the posts from their Facebook connections. For these respondents, the most off-putting post was some kind of whine; a full 63% said complaining from Facebook friends was their number one pet peeve, with political chatter and bragging coming in a distant second and third.

The respondents also said at least one of their Facebook friends tended to Read More »

Girlfriendology 101: Simple Steps to More Fulfilling Friendships – Video & Review

March 23, 2011 – 7:34 pm

Friendship Girlfriendology 101Foster the Friends that Matter … new review and video on GIRLFRIENDOLOGY 101.

If you can’t tell :) our goal here at Girlfriendology is to inspire female friendship - it’s to challenge you (and all of us) to be there for a girlfriend, to be a better listener, to be the reliable go-to-gal to , well, go to!

That prompted us, after over 1300 blog posts on female friendship, to put it in writing in a different form – in a book that would cover the topic in a clear, comprehensive way. Kinda like a L-O-N-G chat with a great girlfriend, we needed some quantity to go along with our quality of conversation!

So GIRLFRIENDOLOGY 101: Simple Steps to More Fulfilling Friendships was published just over a week ago. It became the first of the ‘Girlfriendology Guides’ – eBooks and Webinars to inspire, enlighten and inform women by sharing ‘women’s wisdom.’

We’re thrilled to see the reviews and recommendations coming in like this Read More »

What are the benefits of female friendship?

We cover this more in more depth in ‘Girlfriendology 101,’ but there is research to show that: Women with healthy female friendships (aka: a strong support system), are healthier, happier, less stressed, live longer and feel more beautiful. Some research indicates that the health implications of not having good friends are equal to being a smoker or obese. (Plus, girlfriends make life more FUN!)

The Girlfriendology Guides Launches! | Sharing Women’s Wisdom

March 11, 2011 – 10:36 am

Friendship Girlfriendology 101Announcing: The Girlfriendology Guides! Sharing women’s wisdom through eBooks.

We’re thrilled to launch THE GIRLFRIENDOLOGY GUIDES™!

In two of my ‘previous lives,’ I’ve been in the publishing industry – once doing marketing and publicity for How-To books and then as the author of an award-winning craft/How-To book. Of all the industries I’ve worked in (technology, finance, consumer goods, etc.), I don’t know that anything could top the rewarding feeling of sharing of knowledge, of being responsible for providing inspiration and information that made the reader’s lives better.

As many of you know (thanks for caring and being there!), I started Girlfriendology five years ago as a passion I had to inspire female friendships. I’ve experienced myself, and had countless women share with me, the benefits of Read More »

Female Friendship: the Magic ‘Pill’ for Women’s Health

March 10, 2011 – 3:42 pm

Friendship celebrating with girlfriendsFemale friendship makes women healthier, happier, less stressed, live longer, and even feel more beautiful.*

Seriously. What book, subject, pill, product or action can deliver those results? What other topic can empower women and make such an impact on our overall happiness? What else can recharge the women who take care of their families, lead in their jobs/responsibilities, or tend to their families and friends?

As an adult, it’s not easy to make and keep friends. We don’t have the time we had as a child or teen to just be with our friends. We have responsibilities that fill our every waking moment. We’re busy taking care of our families, our jobs, our homes and gardens, our pets and plans for the future. We’re the Chief Operating Officer of our homes, the caretaker of our children and parents, and often that’s on top of a full-time job. So, it’s easy to see where female friendships, and actively making time for those friends, might easily Read More »

Healthy Trends: Female Friendship | Benefits of Girlfriends

February 19, 2011 – 4:02 pm

Friendship girlfriends with birthday cakeFunny. I received an email telling me the benefits of female friendship recently. Me! The cheerleader for girlfriends, the founder of Girlfriendology.

I love that the benefits of girlfriends is a trending topic. In fact, the email presented quite a few excerpt from research and reports including this from “Relationships Improve Your Odds of Survival by 50 Percent, Research Finds” Science Daily, 7/28/2010

Social connections – friends, family, neighbors or colleagues – improve our odds of survival by 50 percent. Here is how low social interaction compares to more well-known risk factors: Equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, equivalent to being an alcoholic, more harmful than Read More »
