Lessons from SobCon – Amazing People, Incredible Conversations & Love

May 2, 2011 – 2:55 pm

Friendship Sobcon 2011 Liz StraussWhen passionate people come together, share opening and genuinely want to encourage and inspire each other, amazing things happen!

Such was the case this past weekend for me in Chicago. I had the honor of attending a conference unlike all the others I go to/speak at.

SobCon stands are “Successful Online Business Conference” and this was their 4th annual conference. (I went two years ago but couldn’t go last year.) It was started by two friends (and now two friends of mine): Liz Strauss (who I believe is the smartest, kindest woman in the business / social media world) and Terry ‘Starbucker’ St. Marie (also brilliant and kind – they make a great team!). (* It actually is a bi-annual conference since they hold a smaller one in CO in the Fall, I just consider the big one, the annual one.)

The conference is limited to 150 passionate people – so you get to have Read More »

Girlfriend Advice for Webpreneurs – Facebook Marketing

December 6, 2010 – 3:25 pm

Friendship Facebook Twitter Girlfriendology Community FriendsDo you manage a Facebook community?

if you’re a fellow (fella?!) entrepreneur or ‘webpreneur’ you probably do. If so, or if you have a friend who uses Facebook for their business, I recently shared some ‘girlfriend advice,’ on managing a successful and growing community (like we do on Facebook.com/Girlfriendology) with FeedBlitz.com (Email Marketing and Social Media Automation site/service – like a premium FeedBurner but with customer service and a lot more marketing options).

Like, why do we post a daily girlfriend lunch break video and how do we manage 22k+ Twitter fans and 15k+ female Facebook fans? If you’re a girlfriend with an inquiring mind about social media marketing, check out our guest blog: 9 Tips to Managing a Growing, Successful Facebook Community.

Thanks Feedblitz for the opportunity to be published in your great community!

Cincinnati girlfriends you need to meet!

November 14, 2009 – 6:41 am

Cincinnati Blog NetworkHey – it’s our regular Saturday special Girlfriendology blog on Cincinnati. We’re thrilled to be part of the Cincinnati.com blogger network, so this ones’ for you Cincinnati!

I got to know a couple Cincinnati women this week that you need to meet!

  • Sacksteders InteriorsKAREN SACKSTEDER - This energetic, friendly entrepreneur started a home interiors store over 20 years ago in New Trenton, In. (About 35 miles outside of Cincinnati.) I had the opportunity to visit her store this week as she held a women’s networking event that she started this summer called the “Who Do You Know? Party.” It’s basically a wild, wonderful group of women (and women who know women) who gather periodically to meet more women. Check out Karen’s fabulous store in New Trenton and welcome her to Kenwood for her new ‘Sacksteder’s Interior’ shop that just opened. (Also, Karen is a breast cancer survivor and has written a book to raise money for the Pink Ribbon Girls. Love her positive energy and am so glad I know her!)
  • Stop Traffick Fashion beadsSTOP TRAFFICK FASHION – Emily Hill decided that something had to be done. So, Emily started Stop Traffick Fashion. Human Trafficking is the fastest growing form of international crime and the second largest source of income for organized crime, recently surpassing drugs. Each purchase from Stop Traffick Fashion directly helps the survivors and organizations rescuing and providing rehabilitation to survivors. Men, women, and children who have been rescued from their captors make nearly all of our accessories. Shopping at Stop Traffick Fashion provides income for these workers as they strive for a free and healthy life.  In addition to the direct impact, a minimum of 2% of all sales revenue will be donated back to our partner organizations who rescue victims and provide rehabilitation and training.

Check out these two amazing Cincinnati women’s businesses/sites. They’re inspiring!! Thanks Karen and Emily for inspiring me, and so many others!

Girlfriend Entrepreneurs Club – should you start one?

January 5, 2008 – 7:15 pm

Girlfriends entrepreneur girlfriend group

Get a bunch of female entrepreneurs together and what do you get? An Entrepreneur Girlfriend Group!

Tina is a interior/pillow designer. Judy is a techie and writer (with a talent for poems and being funny). Joyce is creating a shop for heirloom gifts for children. Paula and her daughters started a catering business. Helen (who joined us for the first time today) is working on a book and a new source of income. (Becky, “the Kitchen Goddess”, and Melody, the Tupperware Manager Maven couldn’t join us – but we missed you!) And, you know me, I’m dedicated to building Girlfriendology – a place for ‘inspiration, appreciation and celebration of girlfriends.’

We’re all passionate entrepreneurs who, like girlfriends do, want to see each other be successful!

We’re a diverse group - some are neighbors who’ve known each other for years, some are new friends and new entrepreneurs. We meet monthly to help each other grow our businesses and see our dreams become reality. And, to assist each other with challenges we struggle with, but also very much to celebrate our successes together.

WE (“Women Entrepreneurs,” what WE call ourselves) met today to not only explore our dreams and businesses, but to discuss how our group can best benefit each of us. We discussed ways to be better entrepreneurs and how to be better friends.

One part of our discussion this morning was men – should we allow them in the ‘club?’ It was a tough decision because we don’t want to exclude other entrepreneurs who need a group to help them with their businesses. To be honest, I crave the unique strength, energy and support that I receive from women entrepreneurs – things that I very much benefit from and value. Nothing against men, but men and women communicate differently and, to me, it just seems to work best in an environment where WE ’speak the same language.’

Are you an entrepreneur or someone with a dream?
Perhaps you should start a girlfriend club to help and hold each other accountable toward reaching your dreams. I’d highly recommend it as much for ideas and support as for the camaraderie and community. Not an entrepreneur? Start a Mommies group or book club, a group of girlfriends to go to dinner or bowling every month (or monthly GNO – ‘girls night out’), a knitting night group or scrapbook ’sistas, take classes or experiment on gourmet recipes together. Be a better girlfriend. Do life together …. and who better with, than your girlfriends?!
