What are your Three Words for 2011?
January 4, 2011 – 11:11 am
Goals -vs- Three Words.
In Eat, Pray, Love, Liz (aka: Julie Roberts) and her friends determined that each city and each person has a defining word. Some of the ones submitted by Girlfriendology readers were ‘creative,’ ‘inspirator’ (I believe that’s a word!), and ‘happy.’
Now at the start of a new year, we’re taking this a step further.
What three words do you want to define or align with your life in 2011?

One Word … from ‘Eat, Pray, Love’
August 26, 2010 – 9:48 am
What’s your word, girlfriend? What defines you?
Elizabeth Gilbert, in the book and movie “Eat, Pray, Love,” asked what the one word defined several cities – like New York was “Ambition” (or “soot”), London was “Stuffy” and Rome was “Sex.” The ‘one word’ definition was then given as a personal challenge – to define yourself in one word.
It’s an interesting, introspective exercise that explores our core beliefs, dreams, goals, hopes, values. And, with just one word, we’re forced to simmer through our history, past all the titles and ‘hats we wear,’ through what others think of us and on to what really is important, what Read More »

Best Chick Flicks – by Girlfriendology Girlfriends!
July 29, 2010 – 6:32 am
Want to know the best Chick Flicks? Ask your Girlfriends!
Most of us women LOVE Chick Flicks.
We love to watch them, have them on in the background when we’re cleaning the house or fixing meals. We love to give and receive them as DVDs. We just LOVE a good romantic comedy, light and silly. We might happen to love an actress (Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts, Diane Lane, for example) or actor (lots of Hugh Grant, Colin Firth and Keanu Reeves fans!) that influences our theater preferences.
As much as we love chick flicks, we love to share them with our girlfriends like this list of almost 100 best chick flicks that you, our Girlfriendology girlfriends (THANKS!), recommend: Read More »

Be a Better Friend – Freedom and Friendship
July 2, 2010 – 9:18 am
I love my independence. I love that I can read, shop, eat and dress as I please. I love that I can travel, own property, have a business and make my own decisions. I can vote, worship and express my opinion. I love the freedom and protection bought by the dedication of decades of women and men.
And fortunately, that independence allows me the opportunity to be dependent. I’m blessed to have a dependable husband, new roof (yeah!), dog (the cat isn’t always dependable!) and 4-year old car. And I’m so honored to have friends, on whom I can depend. Thoughtful, helpful, wonderful, beautiful girlfriends who are there for me to get together with for a movie (thanks Julie!), to take care of Read More »

Be a Better Friend – Just Hang Out Together
June 25, 2010 – 8:28 am
It’s not just Book Club.
Hot and yummy artichoke dip, tasty crab salad, healthy fresh fruit, trail mix (with dark chocolate M&Ms), black bean salsa and chips, very chocolatey chip cookies and wild berry pie. Each treat shared by a girlfriend at last night’s neighborhood Book Club. (Calories don’t count when you’re with your girlfriends, right?!)
We feasted and caught up on each others lives.
Lorri always has funny stories about her funny sons. Amy is expecting a baby, Stephanie is ‘expecting’ a puppy and Judy and Kay are proud Grandmothers. Several of us are running or walking in a neighborhood race this weekend. And we actually did talk about Read More »

Be a Better Friend – It takes a long time …
June 18, 2010 – 9:29 am
You never know where you’ll find a friend.
Where did you meet your BFF? In school? At work? On your street or yoga class? Have you found friends at the dog park, soccer games, volunteering or waiting on your decaf venti non-fat latte? (or is that just me?!) Have you found friends on Facebook? At church? Hanging out at the farmer’s market?
Sometimes where you least expect it, a potential gal pal will share something in common with you. She’ll laugh at the same silly thing, love the Read More »

Be a Better Friend – Feeling Special
June 7, 2010 – 12:38 pm
You know the friend …
… the one who always gives you perfect, thoughtful gifts … the woman who listens to your stories and asks about specific things in your life because she really cares … the friend who makes you feel ’special.’
Hopefully – you do know that friend. If you’re really blessed, you may even have more than one. They’re the friends who make you feel as special, as their friendship is to you.
Those special friendship are what we strive for. To be a better friend. To be the kind of friend we’d love to have. Like Olympic athletes (like Dara Torres) and best-selling authors, shouldn’t we Read More »
