My girlfriend MARY LYNN MALONEY makes a creative statement everywhere she goes. In her customized and very cool MiARTa car, she shows up in style and beautifies the roads in her northwestern home town. And, if you meet her at a craft/hobby tradeshow (like I did), you immediately are drawn to her and her beautiful smile. I’m a lucky person to call Mary Lynn my girlfriend! She is one of my creative Read More
My Creative SHERO Girlfriends – Meet Mary Lynn!

My Sheros? My creative girlfriends!
March 5, 2008 – 10:31 pm
In the big scheme of things, “sheros” are the female heros that made “herstory” (aka: women’s history). On our recent podcast with author, designer, creativity guru MARGOT POTTER this past week, Margot talked about her ’sheros’ – Corrie Tenbaum, Oprah, Joni Mitchell, Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keefe.
Since life often is about the actual people who come into our lives and make an imprint on our personality and happiness, I propose that sheros also are the women who bless us on a daily basis with their girlfriendship. Keeping with our celebration of National Craft Month, I propose that we also have creative sheros. I’m blessed, having been in the craft industry for several years, to have some of these creative mentors as dear girlfriends. So, for the coming month I’ll introduce you to some of them.
I came across this photo from a Craft Industry event with a bunch of my creative girlfriends … Sue Warden, Jill MacKay, Marie Browning, Vicki Schreiner and more. I’ll introduce you to each of them and other creative women in the coming weeks to hopefully inspire and creatively motivate you! (They do that to me!)
If you have any creative women you’d like me to spotlight in this blog or on the podcast, please post a comment. Let’s celebrate creativity during National Craft Month. Share your ideas, creative stories and inspiring girlfriends. Have fun girlfriends!

TIP TUESDAY #16 – Girlfriend gift embellishments?
March 4, 2008 – 10:40 am
Don’t you love personalized girlfriend gifts?
I do. I love getting a birthday gift from a friend that is perfect for me. I love personalized gifts that show my personal style and mean that my friend has spent time creating a gift just for me. It shows me that they want to be a better friend – and I love and apprecaite that!
I wish I had more time to make and give gifts to my girlfriends. Read More
Day 3 of celebrating Creative Girlfriends
March 4, 2008 – 12:51 am
Happy National Craft Month!
Yep, in honor of National Craft Month everyday in March I am going to discipline myself and write in this Girlfriendology blog. If you guess that I’m a sleepy girl with the weekly podcasts, monthly contests, spreading the word about Girlfriendology, etc. you’d be right!
If you guess that I will/have/should run out of things to talk about by now, I’ll raise my weary fingers to the keyboard and keep going – because my girlfriends, especially those who inspire me with their creativity, are the reason I started Girlfriendology – a place for inspiration, appreciation and celebration of girlfriends. And those girlfriends keep inspiring me to keep building the Girlfriendology community. (Check out the Girlfriendology group on Facebook!)
This month’s contest asks for YOUR stories on gifts you’ve received or given that were handmade or just creative. A few that come to mind for me are the many knitted and crocheted gifts I’ve received from my college girlfriends Barb and Dana. Each one is beautiful and perfect. And each time I touch the soft yarns and intricate stitches, I am humbled by their creativity and generosity of time and talent.
So, now it’s your turn. Share your favorite creative girlfriend gift to receive or give. It doesn’t have to be handmade, it could be a wildly-wrapped present or a cool gift from the girlfriends who know you best. Share your ideas! Thanks Girlfriends!
Here’s some creative girlfriend gifts to make for your friend’s birthdays and special days!

Hey Creative Girlfriends – you inspire me!
February 25, 2008 – 10:56 am
How do your creative friends inspire you?
Maybe it’s Winter … the cold, short days with little time or decent temperatures for outdoor activities. Maybe it’s the long nights where I just want to stay under the covers for as long as possible. Whatever it is, sometimes it takes outside elements (be they natural, human, whatever!) to get inspired.

My friend Penny was over for our Academy Awards party last night. She, as you can see in the picture (she’s on the right), is still growing out her hair from shaving it in solidarity with her friend Read More
TIP TUESDAY #14 – Creative Girlfriend Podcast Advice?
February 19, 2008 – 10:54 am
Do you listen to podcasts? Participate in Social Media?
My creative buddies just returned from CHA – the Craft and Hobby Association tradeshow. Welcome home Jill, Katie, Linda, Lisa, Margot, Tammy, etc.! (Please share the newest, latest, greatest craft trends and products!)
While they were in Anaheim, I was in Nashville where I attended a PodCamp (a seminar for Podcasters and people in “new media” – podcasting, blogs and Read More
TIP TUESDAY #12 – Crafting Trend Ideas?
February 7, 2008 – 11:08 am
This week is the BIG Craft and Hobby (CHA) Tradeshow in Anaheim, CA. Unfortunately, after years of attending I won’t be there any my creative girlfriends will – dang it! However, I wish them all a great week where they make new contacts, get some business, learn about new products and techniques, get inspired and hopefully catch me up on everything when they get home! (Jill, Katie, Lisa, Linda, Tammy, Vicki, Julie – I wish I was there with you!)
So, in keeping with that event, this week’s TIP TUESDAY question is:
What do YOU think are the new craft trends for 2008? What materials, techniques, colors, etc. will influence the products and projects that inspire us?
Just returning from Paperworld in Germany (a HUGE tradeshow for the paper/office/craft world), I did see a few new trends. Shattered glass (like safety glass from car windows) is big in mosaic – no more cut glass. Paper mache was in the craft magazines and projects on display.
So, what’s your girlfriend advice on craft trends? What do YOU think will be BIG in 2008? More Knitting? Crochet? Mosaic? A different style of Beading/Jewelry? Share your creative ideas with your girlfriends!
Counting your girlfriend blessings …
August 1, 2007 – 9:26 pm
My girlfriend Renee and I caught up over dinner on Monday night. On Sunday night, upon arriving in Cleveland, she drove her rental car toward the hotel. But, before she could arrive, she was hit by a car on the highway, spun around, hit by another car, spun some more and finally ended up on the other side of the rush hour, busy highway. Miraculously, she walked away from the accident without a scratch but definitely very shaken up and frightened.
As she recalled the event, I couldn’t help but take a personal, albeit self-centered, view of the terrible event. I would have been so incredibly hurt and sad had something happened to her. In that moment of sharing, I went inside to feel incredibly blessed to know her and to have her safely sitting next to me that evening. It brought a sense of wanting to hold on to her and not let her out of my sight. It was a blinding reminder to care for and stay close to the amazing female friends who bless my life just by being my friends.
Renee, I’m so happy you’re okay and want only good things for you. And, again selfishly, I want to spend MANY more happy, fun, creative times together. To me, you are perfect and I just want to be around you as much as I can. (Can I move in with you and Danny?!)
I’m blessed that nothing happened to my dear friend but hopefully the accident will encourage me (and possibly you) to cherish your girlfriends. Have a friend who you should tell how special she is to you? Lost touch with someone whom you love and don’t want to grow away from? Call. Write. Visit. Send a note. Count your girlfriend blessings – every one of the amazing women in your life!
More Creative Girlfriends!
June 14, 2007 – 9:43 pm
Meet an inspiring, creative girlfriend!
Once a long-haul, huge semi truck driver (seriously! for over 15 years!) my girlfriend Pam recreated herself. She found her inner artist soul and went from living on the road to becoming the editor of a top beading magazine – Bead Unique. She is living her dream now – working from home on a great publication, leading two beading trade show/education events, going to craft/hobby trade shows and doing what she loves.
And, she inspires me. It makes me think – if she can go from truck driver to magazine editor, what can I do if I set my mind to it? What direction will ‘following my bliss’ lead me? Isn’t it time I recreate the life of my dreams?
What inspirational women do you have in your life?
Friends, or even strangers, who have done amazing things are a great source of inspiration and pride. Look for others who recreated themselves and who live their life to the fullest. Now go be that type of woman and inspire others!
(And, thanks Pam! You rock!!!)
