Coffee Commentary | Thoughts from the Faux Diet Queen
March 23, 2012 – 10:35 am
Woman does not live by coffee alone. Have a danish. ~ Unknown
As usual, The Faux Diet Queen is thinking about food. This week the FDQ (as we affectionately call her) is talking about coffee. We’re not sure why she’s talking about coffee (we can only guess she hasn’t been getting enough sleep…).
Whatever her reasons for picking this particular topic, we hope you’ll join us for a cup of coffee, or tea, or water, or just for a visit as we follow her commentary about coffee and friendship.
There are two kinds of food—food you need and food you want. It’s the difference between broccoli and chocolate (bad example—I need both of those).
More specifically, there are two kinds of coffee—the coffee you need and the coffee you Read More »

Rituals, Coffee, and Me Time | Thoughts from the Faux Diet Queen
February 24, 2012 – 9:11 am
With our busy lives, we sometimes forget to find a little time to take care of ourselves. The Faux Diet Queen shares some of her ideas for creating small bits of self-indulgent time.
The Faux Diet Queen (or as we affectionately call her, FDQ) has agreed to share her latest (and last) weight loss journey with us as a regular feature at Girlfriendology. We hope you’ll join us to cheer her on, nudge her back on track when she strays, and generally giggle along.
Rituals are important in our lives.
I’m not talking about religious rituals, although those are important too. I’m talking about the “me time” rituals. The time we build into our crazy busy lives to take just a few minutes off from caring for others to take care of ourselves.
Not surprisingly, that “me” time has changed over the years. At one time, it was Read More »

A reliable coffee maker is like a reliable friend – right? There for you when you need a little pick up! So, a great girlfriend gift is a reliable coffee maker – or get ‘fancy’ with a latte/espresso machine. (My girlfriend had one of these and I felt like I was staying at a super nice bed and breakfast!) Or just make her day with a Starbucks gift card.
By the way, check out these caffeinated blog posts about girlfriends and coffee: Coffee, yoga and girlfriends; and Read More »

Coffee Talk with a Girlfriend – Is there any better way to start the day?
January 20, 2011 – 7:05 am
The best part of waking up … is having coffee with a girlfriend!
There’s something special that happens when you take time out with a friend over coffee (or tea, or whatever your favorite beverage) and just spend time with each other catching up on life. Conversation flows like tasty creamer and friendships are caffeinated. (-: The cares of the previous day kind-of swirl away and we can both relax and enjoy the rare time we have together.
Life gets busy. Rarely do we just relax and spend time together. Coffee seems to give us that ‘excuse.’ In a coffee shop or friend’s kitchen, we allow ourselves to pour a cup and forget about our ‘to do’ list. We give ourselves permission to take time out of our busy day to spend it with a friend. And, we often share the updates, stories, cares and concerns that don’t make it onto our Facebook status update – the things in our life that we only share with a friend.
I love coffee and I love my friends, so the combination of the two is the Read More »

Coffee, Yoga, Friendship
November 20, 2010 – 3:16 pm
Eat, Pray, Love – move over! Make room for Coffee, Yoga and Friendship!
I remember the moment she said it, where we were and how it had to change my life. Seriously.
My friend Carole lives her life with passion. I mean: PASSION. She is an all-the-way kind of woman. Nothing half done she dives into friendship, social media and every aspect of her life head-first and fully committed. She’s the inspiring kind of friend that every woman needs to have. The fabulous female friend who makes you a better person just by knowing her.
We were having coffee when the conversation changed to ‘balance’ in our lives. (Something my friend Cath said is really just a myth that women can live a balanced life!) I shared how I had no balance in my life – I work too much, don’t spend enough time with Read More »

Newsletter, coffee, chat, coffee, newsletter
August 7, 2009 – 11:37 am
That’s my Friday morning. Usually around 4am or so, I’ll wake up to finish the weekly Girlfriendology newsletter. On rare (and bad!) mornings, my wifi doesn’t work (like this morning) so I head off to my cool church which offers the mall-like lobby for everyone (along with free wifi and coffee – bonus!).
Around 8am my girlfriends come for our Friday morning catch-up. Becky, Jill, Ruth Sara and I share our news, tears, laughs and lives in the comfort only found among girlfriends. Read More »
