Jobs, women and stress | Girlfriend advice on taking care of ourselves
January 9, 2010 – 11:52 am
My girlfriend’s husband has been out of work for over a year.
He’s explored options, networked, interviewed and all the things that you’re supposed to do when you’re looking for a job. It’s a stressful situation – but not just for him.
Research shows that “children look to women for tending, men look to women for tending and women look to women for tending.” Read More »

Cincy Events for Women (okay, and guys!)
December 12, 2009 – 12:02 pm
One of the great gifts of the holidays is the opportunity to see and share with friends.
I love how the weeks, months or years of not spending time together just melt away as we share life and time together with friends. It’s a wonderful time of year to reconnect and celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanza or just the true blessing of friends.
There are a few events upcoming in Cincinnati for girl and guy friends that offer fun opportunities to meet new and old friends and maybe even get some ’stuff!’: Read More »

Cincy Saturday – Girlfriend Introductions
November 21, 2009 – 6:28 am
My very good friend Judi (on the left in this photo) asked me to put a meeting on my calendar. Always one to forego meetings if not completely necessary and if at all possible, I hesitated – and she knew it. She wasn’t taking ‘no’ for an answer, so, trusting my girlfriend, I went.
She had assembled a group of six or eight women to just meet each other. Women she respects, enjoys and thought would enjoy meeting each other. Read More »

Cincinnati girlfriends you need to meet!
November 14, 2009 – 6:41 am
Hey – it’s our regular Saturday special Girlfriendology blog on Cincinnati. We’re thrilled to be part of the Cincinnati.com blogger network, so this ones’ for you Cincinnati!
I got to know a couple Cincinnati women this week that you need to meet!
KAREN SACKSTEDER - This energetic, friendly entrepreneur started a home interiors store over 20 years ago in New Trenton, In. (About 35 miles outside of Cincinnati.) I had the opportunity to visit her store this week as she held a women’s networking event that she started this summer called the “Who Do You Know? Party.” It’s basically a wild, wonderful group of women (and women who know women) who gather periodically to meet more women. Check out Karen’s fabulous store in New Trenton and welcome her to Kenwood for her new ‘Sacksteder’s Interior’ shop that just opened. (Also, Karen is a breast cancer survivor and has written a book to raise money for the Pink Ribbon Girls. Love her positive energy and am so glad I know her!)
STOP TRAFFICK FASHION – Emily Hill decided that something had to be done. So, Emily started Stop Traffick Fashion. Human Trafficking is the fastest growing form of international crime and the second largest source of income for organized crime, recently surpassing drugs. Each purchase from Stop Traffick Fashion directly helps the survivors and organizations rescuing and providing rehabilitation to survivors. Men, women, and children who have been rescued from their captors make nearly all of our accessories. Shopping at Stop Traffick Fashion provides income for these workers as they strive for a free and healthy life. In addition to the direct impact, a minimum of 2% of all sales revenue will be donated back to our partner organizations who rescue victims and provide rehabilitation and training.
Check out these two amazing Cincinnati women’s businesses/sites. They’re inspiring!! Thanks Karen and Emily for inspiring me, and so many others!

Cincinnati “Friend in Need” Fundraiser / Tool Sale
November 4, 2009 – 5:15 pm
Buy a tool! Help a friend in need!
I love the name of his business. He called it “Sawdust Therapy.” (I’m sure guys can relate to that!) For years he installed doors, built kids’ furniture, and repaired all kinds of wooden ’stuff.’ He hired men who might need a break and helped them prosper in skills and confidence. He is a good guy. Review: Elk Creek Vineyards (scary good wines!)
October 30, 2009 – 5:23 pm
Happy Halloween!
In our neighborhood that means we all go to the party at Judy and Jay’s house. The adults eat, drink and the kids get scary! In the spirit of Halloween and adult celebrations, we’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to review a winery in nearby Northern Kentucky with surprising wines we didn’t know could come from this region! Cincy Cheap Chic – Frugal finds to share with Friends
October 24, 2009 – 6:01 am
What your favorite cheap place to shop?
Where do you go when you want something just fun, fashionable and frugal?
Recently I had a conference in Vegas and needed some clothes to wear. (We won’t get into my size and finances, but let’s just agree that sometimes we need something new to wear and don’t really have that option so we have to find alternatives.) Fortunately my sweet friend Jill wears about my size and responded with a big armful of clothes. (First frugal tip – have friends in your size range!) Read More »
