Most of our friendships are with women we have something in common with – we both have kids in soccer, we are in a Book Club together or work in the same office.

But, have you ever become good friends with someone who you thought would never be your friend?

The April Girlfriendology Book Club book is “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett. It is set in the deep south in the turbulent 1960’s. The book is written in the voices of the three main characters: Miss Skeeter – a 23-year old, recent college graduate who has dreams of being a writer and also just wants to be accepted and loved. Aibileen is a maid who raises white children to feel important and loved, and suffered a broken heart when her beloved son died at a young age. Milly is also a maid – with an attitude. She’s been fired 19 times for speaking her mind when she knows she shouldn’t. She works all day to come home to a drunk, abusive husband and five kids.
