The Apology from All Girlfriends to All Girlfriends | How do you say I’m Sorry?
June 19, 2011 – 6:38 pm
I apologize, Girlfriend.
I’m sorry. I’m really, really sorry. I am sorry all the way down to the bottom of my toes.
And I truly hope you will forgive me and give me another chance.
That’s the thing about girlfriends. We don’t mess up on purpose. But we’re human, and our best intentions don’t always line up with our reality. When we mess up too often, we threaten friendships. But in general, when we goof, we apologize, and our girlfriends forgive us.
Is there a right way to apologize?
Someone once told me that Read More »

To have a good friend, be a good friend | Patricia Sands Guest Blog
April 29, 2011 – 8:44 am
What the secret to friendship? Good female friendships?
Each woman probably has her own unique take on what is the secret to having / being a good friend. To some, it’s the women who are there for us at a very important time our life. To others, it’s the lifelong friends who have become more our family than ‘just friends.’ To other women, it may be women who’ve taught us great lessons or inspired us to reach our dreams.
To PATRICIA SANDS, it’s the women who have inspired her to write her new novel about friends – The Bridge Club. (LISTEN IN to this great interview with Patricia on our BlogTalkRadio show!) She first shared her Bridge Club with us on a Wordless Wednesday, now we have this great guest blog on the secret to Read More »

Female Friendship: They Teach it at Stanford
April 13, 2011 – 8:39 pm
Nurture Your Relationships with your Girlfriends
You know those mass emails that your great aunt sends you? The ones that warn you of parking lots and microwaves, that ‘enlighten you’ on how to show your friends how much you appreciate them by sending the letter to all of them and asking that they pass it along to all their friends? The emails that promise you good luck or riches, again, IF you send it on to ALL your friends?!
Well, when I receive a ‘mass email’ from a dear friend who knows me and knows I don’t want a lot of mass emails, I give her the benefit of the doubt and read it. Such is the case with the following message on friendship, shared with me by my beautiful girlfriend Carole. (And, for the record, I don’t know if this is 100% factual or partially fictional – but I do know that it is truthful about the Read More »

Be a Better Friend – Spend TIME with your Girlfriends
March 28, 2011 – 9:02 pm
Time … it’s our most limited resource and our most valuable gift!
Spending time with a girlfriend shows that we care enough about her to give her part of our day or a weekend away with her. It tells her that she’s important, worthy of leaving work and the kids behind for a little girlfriend time together.
We’re looking at time and how we use it this week. Do we spend our hours and days making memories with our friends (and family – we’re not saying to neglect them!)? Do we make room in our schedule to call (remember – Phone a Friend Sunday!), take a walk together, have a meal or a coffee, go to yoga or go shopping – with a friend?
At the end of our lives, we may very well wish we had prioritized the time we have here to spend more with Read More »

Friendship and the Art of Compromise | Be a Better Friend
March 16, 2011 – 10:09 am
We compromise on a daily basis.
Our boss takes credit for our work and we resist the impulse to confront him. The kids have activities when you’d really rather go to yoga. The DH (dear husband) has to go out of town, so you rearrange your schedule to cover for him. You even let the mom with only five items go ahead of you in the grocery store line (when you just have seven things!).
We make concessions, give people grace, just ‘be nice.’ And we go about it, generally, without making a big deal over it.
The topic of compromise – and, specifically with our girlfriends, came up in writing GIRLFRIENDOLOGY 101: Simple Steps to More Fulfilling Friendships (our new eBook – still 50% off with promo code GF101new through midnight tonight, 3/16/11). It seems to be that sometimes, when it comes to our girlfriends, we’re open to compromise and sometimes, we ‘put a stick in the ground’ and refuse to change.
We’re usually fine with the Read More »

The Girlfriendology Guides Launches! | Sharing Women’s Wisdom
March 11, 2011 – 10:36 am
Announcing: The Girlfriendology Guides! Sharing women’s wisdom through eBooks.
We’re thrilled to launch THE GIRLFRIENDOLOGY GUIDES™!
In two of my ‘previous lives,’ I’ve been in the publishing industry – once doing marketing and publicity for How-To books and then as the author of an award-winning craft/How-To book. Of all the industries I’ve worked in (technology, finance, consumer goods, etc.), I don’t know that anything could top the rewarding feeling of sharing of knowledge, of being responsible for providing inspiration and information that made the reader’s lives better.
As many of you know (thanks for caring and being there!), I started Girlfriendology five years ago as a passion I had to inspire female friendships. I’ve experienced myself, and had countless women share with me, the benefits of Read More »
