This weekend marks one year since we lost our beloved Stella (12-yr old golden retriever). Not having kids, this is as close as I can relate to being a parent. It was tough, dang tough. And we still miss her even with our 10-month old Brando (named in memory of her – the picture is a hint!).

Now, leave it to the Olympics and amazing swimmer Michael Phelps  for us to get another glimpse into human/dog love! (And he did say how he was so eager to get home to see his dog!)

What’s the girlfriend lesson? Well, like our loyal ‘furry children,’ we need to be there for our girlfriends and to know when they need a little time or attention. Loving them unconditionally and even if they’re not loving themselves at the moment is a good thing. And just being nearby to make them smile is a great bonus.

Show some girlfriend gratitude and appreciation – and do the same for your friends, family and furry pals. Take time to recognize the blessing they are to you and cherish that time together.

Who are you thankful for? Who would you like to just hang out on the couch with and enjoy spending time together? Make some plans with them!
