You’re ‘uniquely qualified’ to be a BFF
Take a moment to look at your female friendships. Which women (or girls) do you feel the most comfortable around? Who do you look to for advice? What girlfriend(s) can always cheer you up? And, think about those special female friends that you rarely see but, when you do, with whom you instantly pick up where you left off?
We’re a very lucky gender to have these deep, valuable relationships. We reap so many benefits from female friendship – like less-stress, health, happiness and even longevity. And, sometimes we just need to stop and practice being aware and appreciative of the females in our life who ‘tend’ to us – take care of us when we need anything, cheer us up and are there for us.
Recently I wrote an article for SmartNow on being an entrepreneur. The title, “Uniquely Qualified,” refers to my experience and talents combining with my passion to inspire female friendship through Girlfriendology. It was a great reminder, by going through the exercise of writing the article, of my mission, my goals and my journey (and successes) so far. The process of writing it down caused me to be thankful and aware of my progress so far.
Now, think about those girlfriends who are there for you for a good laugh, a soft shoulder to lean on or even a few tears. They’re there for you because you’ve been there for them. The ebb and flow of female friendship means that sometimes you’ll be here for her and, thankfully, she’ll be your friend when you need her as well.
You, my friend, are uniquely qualified as a BFF. You have learned lessons that you may need to pass along to your BFF. She may have the personality that brings out the best in you. Stop for a moment. Maybe even write it down. But ponder the qualities of your female friendship(s) that impact your life. Be in the moment with the joy of having a great girlfriend. Even look at your own friendship style to see how you can be there for her even more and strengthen that bond that probably will be with you for the rest of your life.
We’re celebrating National Girlfriend’s Day all month (and next month is National Women’s Friendship Day!) so make plans to spend time with the women who are uniquely qualified to be your BFF, as you are to them. Here are some ideas for spending time with your BFF. Or write Girlfriendology about your friendship for our August Contest or The Girlfriend Picture Project. Start a girlfriend gratitude journal. But, whatever you do, stop and take note of the wonderful women in your life who bless you with their friendship. Be thankful. Be happy. And be a BFF!
