Heather Armstrong / Dooce and ‘mommy bloggers’ – Why not make money?
The San Francisco Gate wrote an article on Heather Armstrong, the blogger known as Dooce. She spoke on Saturday as one of the keynote presenters regarding her popular blog at BlogHer08.
As noted in the article, Heather makes a good living off her blog. She and her husband support their lifestyle with her clever writing and their business partnership. I respect her for this and, like so many of us who blog, hope the karma returns to us!
I noted in a BlogHer review previously that some bloggers are, IMHO, jealous of her success. In fact, the comments on this article indicated that a lot of people are quick to criticize her for making an income off her ‘gossip’ and her child. (whatever!)
The article mentioned several other ‘mommy bloggers’ who also make money from their blogs: Stefania of CityMama, Mir of WouldaShouldaCoulda and Carmen of Mom to the Screaming Masses.
Come on girlfriends! Can’t we just support each other? Good for Dooce and Mir and all the others who monetize their efforts. They’re great writers who just happen to be mothers and love to write about the lives and people they love.
Be a friend. Support each other. Cheer for other women even when our own bills are due and our income is nowhere to be seen. They’re not taking money out of our hands. They’re, if we let them, inspiring us. Showing us the way to better our blogs and income. Teaching us how to be creative and successful in our businesses.
To the women who have gone before us, thanks. For showing us the way, for inspiring us and for clearing the path so we can thrive doing what we love. Know them by name or not, those are great girlfriends.
