BlogHer, UnBlogHer and great women blogs (no ungreat women!)
BlogHer08 definitely lived up to their “sleep is for the weak” advance warning. Seminars, make-over sessions (beauty, body and laptops), evening receptions and just conversations with fascinating women who blog on food, porn, blogging, crafts, second life and so many other passions kept the schedule jam-packed! Two days, physically, felt like two weeks because there was so much invigorating sensory and mental overload – and I’m not complaining! It was great!
The third day to BlogHer08 was optional for an UnConference (or UnBlogHer08 as we Twittered). I’m really bad with numbers but I’d guess over 100 women (and three guys) stayed for this semi-structured, partly free-flowing interactive day lead by Kaliya (who is trained in facilitating these sessions). We were asked to each take part by suggesting topics to discuss or just participating in groups that were offered. Topics covered included video blogging, what is Twitter and how to use it, legal issues to blogging, Second Life (which was fascinating!), podcasting, etc. Groups ranged from two or three people to a dozen – so very comfortable for talking, asking or just listening in. I loved this format because we really got to share and help each other.
At the end of the day we reviewed some things we’d learned, acknowledged different participants for being especially helpful and thanked the BlogHer Team (specifically Kristy, Elisa and Jory – and any others that I don’t know names for!) and Kaliya, for her leadership. And, to the fun women and men who shared so much information and inspiration, THANK YOU! It was great to get to meet so many of you, including:
- Tara from Ligit (Cool widget tool – check it out!)
- Kay from GreatAupair (and soon a podcast for bloggers!)
- Elizabeth (who I met on the plane) from MomReviews
- Robert from Johnson & Johnson
- Fivestar from IamFiveStar
- Kim from BlogWorld
- Reno and its discontents
- Julia from IdeaList
- Anne-Marie (thanks for all the info!) from The Write Spot
- Wendy from GlossedOver
- Linda from Courage Group and Singelringen.com
- Laurie at LaurieWrites
- Kristen from Inkthinker Communications
- Esther at FaintStarlite (great info on vlogging!)
- Claire at ClaireMysko

I apologize to those I failed to mention. I’ll do one more post with BlogHer08 links. Remember, if you want to add your blog to this list, do so in comments. Thanks Girlfriends!!

Debba, It was a pleasure to meet you at BlogHer08! I’m enjoying your site
Thank you for your generous tips on podcasting during the Unconference session. Inspired by the possibilities, I recruited a video intern from Germany, and will be starting vlogs soon.
