Diet Re-Launch for the New Year | Thoughts from the Faux Diet Queen

weight loss fdqThe Faux Diet Queen (or as we affectionately call her, FDQ) has agreed to share her latest (and last) weight loss journey with us as a regular feature at Girlfriendology. We hope you’ll join us to cheer her on, nudge her back on track when she strays, and generally giggle along.

As we enter 2012, the FDQ has been contemplating the mayhem of her holiday eating and how to re-launch her effort to be healthy healthier in the new year.

Have you ever been on a cruise? That’s where we were for the last week, and as far as I am concerned a cruise is just a big boat full of wonderful food.

Our well-thought-out agenda went something like this:

Pre-breakfast coffee and sweet rolls
Breakfast
Mid-morning pick-me-up
Lunch
Early afternoon snack
Mid-afternoon cocktails and nosh
Pre-dinner cocktails and appetizers
Dinner
Dessert, dessert, dessert
Late night something-or-other

There was an exercise room on the ship. I know this because I walked by it once or twice. I could see that there were people working out. I wasn’t one of them. My major exercise came from lifting the bottle of sunscreen to preserve my oh-so-delicate skin.

So it was no surprise that our incredible vacation was followed by something less than a warm welcome from my evil scale.

I spent a few quality moments yelling at the scale and contemplating throwing it out the window (but that would involve lifting the darn thing). I’m not sure who is more stubborn, me or the scale. But I do know who gets the last word number, and it isn’t me.

Sigh.

I know I’m not the only one who gained more than an ounce during the holidays. (I’m not the only one, am I???) But it is very hard to see the numbers go up.  (Oh, WHEN will someone invent fat-burning dessert??? Can you imagine what the nutritional data on the label would look like? Negative numbers!!)

Here we are. Six days into the year. 360 days to go (it’s a leap year, remember?). OK, time is on my side. I can do this.

I can do this.

I can become the me I want to be. I can get back to a healthy healthier weight. I can exercise (yeah, ok, one thing at a time). I can reach my goals and fit into the clothes hanging in the back of my closet. I can pass by the Oreos without eating the entire box. I can beat the scale, find muscle definition somewhere besides the dictionary, and be proud of myself.

I can do this.

And I hope you’ll join me on the journey.

The Faux Diet Queen is a Girlfriend and a Half, trying to find her Skinny Self. She wishes everyone a happy 2012 as she re-launches her weight loss journey.

Girlfriendology / Debba here: We love our girlfriends no matter what size jeans they wear or what the scales tell them if they’re brave enough to get on them. (Something I personally avoid like the plague.) But, we also want our girlfriends to be around and healthy for a long time. We’re sharing this journey that our girlfriend, FDQ (the FAB Faux Diet Queen) because it’s what girlfriends do – we go through life and diets together (and shoe shopping, and highs and lows …). Join us on her journey to fitness and good health. We’re excited for her to motivate and inspire us all!

Here’s some more Faux Diet Queen ‘adventures’. Stop back next Friday for the next installment!

p.s. If your food stories fall into a more serious topic, like emotional eating, we’ve got a great girlfriend for you to meet too – ELLEN SHUMAN. She’s shared great advice on emotional eating on various guest blogs and podcasts. (Her podcast on emotional eating is our #1 listened to interview so lots of us have some emotional eating issues or friends/family who do.)

Love the name Faux Diet Queen. Totally describes me. I am constantly starting new diets. So far nothing has taken off the last lbs from my baby— who’s now 3. Then i get defeated – and stop. Vicious cycle.

Anywho, Monday Im starting the Special K challenge because I will try anything once :) Wish me luck!

I ABSOLUTELY understand! Only my “baby pounds” are much older than 3! LOL. I have some great new ideas for 2012, so I hope you’ll follow along.

And please let me know how the Special K challenge is going–it might be time for me, the Faux Diet Queen, to try that too…..what do you think?
