Girlfriend Advice: Let’s Ask for What We Want, Let’s Simplify Things
Let’s make it easier to be happier – deal, girlfriend? or a lesson from my dog.
Sometimes life is simple. My dog shows me this everyday. He barks at the door, that means he wants out. If I come a little too close, he rolls over to show me his belly for a little loving belly scratch. And, when he’s hungry, I’ll find him in the kitchen staring (STARING!) at his food bowl. He’s pretty obvious about what would make him happy. And I, as a loving ‘mom,’ enjoy the clear (and sometimes funny) communication.
But we humans tend to complicate things. We say things we don’t actually mean and hope our friends and family will KNOW what we MEANT. We sometimes do things that don’t really represent how we things or feel – like going for months without speaking to each other and trusting, hoping our friends know that they’re still important in our life. We ‘get busy’ and don’t respond to an email, or we concentrate on work and not on the people who make it so fun to ‘not work.’
Here’s some girlfriend advice on it I found somewhere (sorry, I don’t know the original author to credit):
Why COMPLICATE Life?
Missing somebody? Call
Wanna meet up? Invite
Wanna be understood? Explain
Have questions? Ask
Don’t like something? Say it
Like something? State it
Want something? Ask for it
Love someone? Tell them
Nobody will know what’s going on in your mind…
It’s better to express rather than expect …
You already have the NO, take the risk of getting the YES
We only have one Life
Keep it Simple Silly
Who are you expecting to read your mind? Who might you be neglecting? What are you over-complicating? And, the BIG one – what friend do you LOVE but you don’t show or share it?
As girlfriends, let’s try to simplify a few things. If we’re missing each other, let’s actually pick up the phone and call. (Remember, Sundays are ‘Phone a Friend Day’ on Facebook.com/Girlfriendology – ‘friend’ us there to get a FRIENDly reminder every Sunday!) If we like something or someone, let’s share it – and show some ‘girlfriend gratitude.’ Let’s be a little more like my funny pup and share what we need and show how we feel. I’m sure he’d wag his tail over that!
