Girlfriend Daily Inspiration: Thoughtfully Committed

Back in 2005, JENNIFER DAVIS had three careers: one in project management, another as a jewelry designer and yet another as a stay-at-home mother to her two sons.She always had a passion for the people and beauty of the African continent. In fact, she’d been saving for a trip to Africa for nearly 15 years. Then she answered a call for to work in partnership with a church in Mamelodi, South Africa. In that community more than 30% of residents suffer from HIV/AIDS and the remaining are impacted by it on a daily basis.
Jennifer traveled to Mamelodi in July of 2005. While there, she saw the intricate artisan beaded jewelry and ornaments made by the women and realized that her own jewelry design business provided her with a means to help the women in a very significant manner.
Now Jennifer leads BEADED HOPE – an organization that supports women in South Africa as well as contributes to the largest AIDS Hospice in South Africa (which I’ve visited and met many of these women). And, now there is a new book (by CATHY LIGGETT) sharing this story – the story of girlfriends making a change in the world, and the profits support this organization, so they – and Jennifer – can help more girlfriends in this beautiful country.
