Kroger Giveaway – Frugal Advice, Gift Cards & New Fuel Program

KrogerKroger has a new Fuel Savings program – did you know?

Last week Kroger invited me and a few of my fella girlfriend bloggers to the Hyde Park Kroger to find out more about their new fuel savings program. It was great to hear about it but also really great to see/meet some women bloggers (several local frugal bloggers) in the Cincinnati area, like:

Cincinnati Kroger BloggersNote: each of these bloggers also received gift cards to give away so visit their sites for more opportunities to win.

We had the opportunity to talk with three of their Marketing execs and learned a ton about Kroger and their commitment to great food, at a great price and how they are always looking for ways to make these even better. One way is their new changes to the Kroger Fuel Program.

I admit, I wasn’t a big fan previously. I only have a 13 gallon tank and generally I don’t let the tank get that low so my average savings was $1.00. For $1.00, I wasn’t sure it was worth spending $100 at a Kroger. Well, that has changed – at least in some markets like Cincinnati/Dayton, Nashville, San Diego and Knoxville.

Beginning on February 15th, Kroger and Shell rolled out the grocer rewards program in the above cities. Customers in these markets can now earn points and redeem them for savings on gas at Kroger Fuel Centers and participating Shell stations. (Note – some Shell stations are individually owned and may not choose to participate in this program but a huge amount are – and that means you can save – and save more – at more pumps.)

Kroger FuelHow can you save more? Well, actually there are various ways to save so here’s the guidelines for the Cincinnati Market and for other areas. Based on points, I was able to fill my car for $1.00 off (disclosure – Kroger did this for us to show us how to use the option on the pump. Unfortunately I only needed 7 gallons – but that’s $7.00!). As this photo shows, you get to choose when you want to apply the $1.00 off (so you don’t ‘waste’ it on a small amount of gas).

So, to get the word out to Girlfriendology friends, Kroger gave me two $25 Kroger Gift Cards to give away! To enter in this giveaway, either:

  • Leave a comment below and share what the one thing you’d like Kroger to know – a product you’d like to have stocked in your store, your favorite type of soup or how much you love their $1 Tortilla Chips (which just won a national contest for taste and value). Share anything you’d like – good or bad. (They want to hear it so don’t be shy!)
  • Tweet about it: Follow Girlfriendology on Twitter and tweet this: @Girlfriendology is giving away two $25 Kroger Gift Cardshttp://bit.ly/GF-krogercards Pls RT

Contest ends February 25th, 5pm EST and will be announced in our newsletter on Friday, February 26th. Random selection of winner.

Disclaimer: Kroger provided these $25 gift cards for the contest and one for me for my time. You do not have to live in Cincinnati to win (but remember that the gas savings vary by region/city). Gift cards are not transferable to other stores, only Krogers.

I love how Kroger carries MetroMint Waters when no one else locally does! They carry many products that I can’t find elsewhere.

I live close to the new Kroger Marketplace in Newport – my suggestion is a better salad bar! How about having a salad bar kinda like how Subway serves their food – have someone there serving the salad and a glass between them and the customer. At the end you are given your choice salad in a take home tray … nice and fresh.

The Anderson Kroger has the friendliest staff. And now they have a Murray Cheese shop! Yay!
I love how the meat department staff will stop and answer “How-to” cooking questions on different cuts of meat.
They have great wine dinners every month too!

I love that Kroger has done this! I could never take advantage of the savings before because there was only 1 Kroger pump in our area and it was several miles away.Great work! Im going to share this info with all my buds!

I love how Kroger carries so many store brand options that are of such a high quality. Kroger is the only store brand that carries the light/whole wheat/healthy versions of all of their products as well!

We shop at a variety of Kroger stores in the Blue Ash, Shvlle, Mtgy area. Can’t wait until the one at Kemper and Mtgy Rd is finished–dying to see what it’s like!

Love the fish market–would love to see a few more selections like scrod (I miss having scrod). Also love that my kids eat Kroger brand cold cereals.

My best suggestion? A way to keep my husband from buying the Kroger brand choc chip cookies–I just can’t resist them when they’re in the house….!

thanks for the info on the gas program!

My husband was astounded (he never grocery shops)at what we had earned in the fuel plan. He was really impressed after a Kroger fill-up at what he saved at the pump.

With a sensitive stomach, I snack on saltine crackers frequently. The Kroger Great Value brand and the Kroger store brand are much less expensive, and they TASTE much better than the national brands.

I love, love, love the rotisserie chicken salad that you sell at the Kroger’s Fresh Market in Kenwood. Why do you only sell it there and not in your other stores? Did I mention how much I love it though? LOL

I’m not a Kroger shopper, but these posts and the rewards program I’ve been reading about – in addition to the new gas station – AND how they do triple coupons – has won me over! I’m in the Lansing, Michigan area.

I shop at the Forest Park location and would love to see that store expanded in size. I would also note that I love how Kroger offers the 10 for 10 items. You can really get some great deals.

I love the friendly people! It feels like a neighborhood grocery store- and because I have two teen boys, I am there a lot. The Private Selection brand is great! love how they are always coming out with new fresh ideas- my personal fave is the PS frozen molten lava cakes. I keep a stash hidden away…

I am a faithful Kroger shopper (you can find me at the Sharonville store almost every Monday!) I am so glad that they have a new gas program that I will be able to use even though my Kroger doesn’t have gas pumps. That is great news.

We are a pretty darn loyal Kroger family. I’m not always tickled by the customer service, but I appreciate the rewards program, especially the fuel rewards.

I’m glad that Krogers finally got a gas pump facility in our part of town. We literally wasted thousands and thousands of points beforehand – despite living in a area with over a quarter million folks. We love the sales and take advantage of them every week. My mom lives in Indiana (Terre Haute) and they do NOT have a senior discount program there. Shame on Krogers for not making this discount universal throughout the country! Needless to say, my mom shops elsewhere.

Thank you for a great giveaway!

Kroger has very nice community programs – like the Kroger cards for students and youth to help raise money for the organizations to which they belong. That is an everyday savings and helps fund programs without constant fundraisers or parental money!

I’d like Kroger to know how much I love unique aspects of the Fresh Fare store, but the selection in the grocery portion is lacking, and so I more often find myself at Blue Ash in order to find a wide selection, or the varieties I’m looking for.

I have to say that shopping at Kroger is a genuinely fabulous experience. The only suggestion I would like to make is for the self checkout stations to remain open in the evening. Due to work and family commitments, I find myself shopping late in the evenings and being able to check out independently would improve the experience. Thanks-Jenny

We love Kroger Fresh Market in Kenwood. I generally can find what we need. I also was glad when they added sushi bar in the Mason store. And the Kroger brand dairy is excellent at affordable prices. Thanks for saving us money!! I lived in San Diego and shopped at Ralphs and Food For Less, both Kroger affiliates. But Kroger is BEST!!

Krogers’ private label foods are almost always just as good as name brands, but for some reason they just can’t touch Kraft American Cheese. They shouldn’t feel bad, as our family thinks no other brand (borden, IGA, etc.) can either, but that’s the one brand that we stick to. Everything else is Kroger label (unless a great sale is going on, of course).

I love Kroger, their prices are competitive and they’ve got a good selection of products. I already use the fuel plan and the changes they’ve made to it are great – I’m lucky enough to live near a Kroger that does have gas! The Kroger Market place is little further, but it’s fun to go there for the extra selections sometimes.
