Girlfriend Advice – The Business of Blogging
After 1000+ blogs, and a background in marketing, I should know how to market my blog, right?
Well, in some ways ‘yes.’ I’ve learned a ton but still know I have a mountain more to learn. So this blog is in keeping with our philosophy of passing along girlfriend advice, so we can all reach our goals and achieve our dreams (together we’re smarter, stronger and more powerful!).
After talking with a girlfriend this morning about blogging and being quoted in this article by Cincy Chic, I thought I’d at least offer some resources and info to help you reach your dreams through blogging. Which, I do believe in! If you want to make more friends, promote your business, follow your passion and talk about it – blogging is an excellent way of forming a community and connecting with amazing people. But don’t just take my word for it.
Speaking of amazing people – and especially inspiring, smart women – I’ll start with a few who you should follow. ANDREA is the brains behind MommySnacks.net and one of the fabulous female bloggers who founded SavvyBlogging.net, a great site for learning from girlfriend gurus of blog marketing. Next, meet girlfriend (and one of the fellow Cincinnati Women Blogger founders) SHANNAN who is a PR professional and a prolific blogger for MommyBits and FamilyFriendlyCincinnati (and more things coming!). A blogging and social media pro, LIZ STRAUSS, is also just a smart, super nice woman. Check out her blog about “Successful Outstanding Blogs” (aka: SOBs) and her conference (for such bloggers) – SobCon. (It’s not your average blogger conference. It’s limited to 150 bloggers who are committed to blogging for a business and we work on our business together. I’m going again this year – see you there?)
One way to find out more from other successful women bloggers is by attending a conference for women bloggers. Here are a few great listings of blogger conferences: MomItForward’s List – by my girlfriend and #GNO Founder, Jyl; and Kelby, aka: Type A Mom has a list of conferences too – (which, I’ve heard her conference is VERY informative and helpful. I hope to attend it this year! Date TBA). Also, a new blogger I just met at Blissdom, Jennifer’s Mom Bloggers Club has this list of women blogger conferences too. I’d highly recommend attending a conference with women bloggers – you’ll not only learn bunches and save time while doing so, but you’ll most likely meet amazing women who will become your BFFs.
Here are a few business resource links (also affiliates) that I highly recommend: SendOutCards – great for custom cards to all the contact I make at conferences and for my business. I used Constant Contact for my newsletters which keeps me in touch with my community. For great deals on business cards, etc. you have to check out Vista Print’s new customer offer. FREE SHIPPING on orders over $25, plus SAVE UP TO 90% Your First Order. I get all my biz cards from Vista Print but these are pretty cool too and are popular at women blogger conferences – MOO Business Cards – $21.99 for 50 unique, customized Business Cards, each one with a different design. And, for promotional products (like these cool items by Girlfriendology), check out CafePress.com. That should get you started marketing your blog and/or business.
What are your recommendations for new women bloggers? What sites, events or Twitter friends can we learn from so we can all achieve our dreams?
