‘Tis the month of love!
February marks the romantic arrival of cupid, mushy cards and heart-shaped boxes of chocolate. That’s all well and good if we’re in a romantic relationship but is that all that it’s all about?
Really, it’s the month of love – in what should be a year of love and a lifetime of love. We’re blessed with friendship and that’s usually a more common and lasting relationship that warrants chocolate and cards too!
It also brings us ‘Madly in Love with ME day‘ (Feb. 13th) and the chance to celebrate the SWEET relationships we have with our girlfriends. So, here’s this week’s celebration. Dear Girlfriend,
I love my cat. I love my dog. I love my husband and our life together. I love shoes, being comfy all day and my Starbucks coffee mug from Paris. I love laughter that surprises me and how traveling keeps me totally in the present. And, of course (you have to have guessed this one!), I love my girlfriends.
I love how my friends accept me with no make-up, when I say goofy things and have so many layers on I look like the Michelin WOman. I love how they support me and my business by tweeting about me, sharing ideas and connections with me and celebrating my successes.
What about your friends? What do you love about them? How do they show you that your friendship means the world to them? We’re asking that in our February Girlfriendology Contest. We’re asking for YOUR thoughts about why you love your girlfriends and we can’t wait to share your stories to inspire others.
Start a tradition of showing your friends LOVE on Valentine’s Day. Write a sweet note or email. Send a card. Drop off some cookies or flowers. Or just call them up to thank them for the lovely gift of their friendship. I promise it will make your day just as much as it does theirs. Life – and Valentine’s Day – really is better together with your girlfriends!

Today, in the 21st century, these are the facts:
* 1 in 3 women will be in an abusive relationship before the age of 20. 80% will return.
* 1 in 3 women will be sexually abused.
* 4 of 5 girls will think about dieting before 4th grade.
* Almost 1 out of 2 women will suffer through a divorce. 20% in the first 5 years of marriage.
* 80% of women are so exhausted that they are headed for extreme adrenal gland fatigue.
* Women surveyed today are no happier than women surveyed in 1970, even though they have more equality, self esteem and freedom.
Per our girlfriend, and self-love guru, CHRISTINE ARYLO: If you ever believed that self-love was a luxury think again. The repercussions of not having it, and worse not teaching it to our daughters, are serious. Today, while many people do understand the power of self-love because they have experienced its life changing affects, self-love still elicits definitions like narcissism, conceit, vanity, selfishness and others we won’t mention here. In a world where so many girls and women experience unnecessary suffering, not using the power of self-love will simply not do.
 It’s hard to look in the mirror when you don’t have self-love. It’s tough to follow your dreams and to inspire others. It makes life lonely when you’re not a fan of you – you can tend to keep friends distant.
Tomorrow, Saturday, February 13th is designated as “Madly in Love with ME Day.” Let’s celebrate ourselves, our friends, our daughters and our healthy self-esteem. Let’s take the “Madly in Love with Me” manifesta and proclaim that we’ll love ourselves – just the way we are.
Know your girlfriends love you – just the way you are!
