‘Awakening’ to the need for friends
On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your ability to HOPE?
Hope is one of the most vital beliefs. Yet, we often lack it in our life. Well, our guest for this week’s BlogTalkRadio show (2pmEST, on Friday, December 4th – Join us!) is going to help us regain that hope. Plus, she shared the following guest blog.
Awakening to the need for friends, by Angelia White, Hope for Women Magazine
There comes a point when we begin to evaluate various aspects of our lives. Call it a midlife crisis or hormones changing—whatever it is, we begin to take inventory on where we are spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally and so on. We often begin to evaluate our careers, accomplishments, goals, relationships and friendships. That point came for me in my mid 30s, age 35 to be exact.
I often refer to this point in my life as my “awakening.” As I began to sort through my life and reminisce on the things that matter the most to me other than family, I saw that my friends were extremely high on my list. This awakening opened my eyes so that I began to think about the incredible blessings I have received through my girlfriends. I wouldn’t necessarily say I have a BEST friend, but I sure have been blessed with some awesome girlfriends for every aspect of life.
I have a girlfriend who has helped me through my marriage crisis by supporting me and praying with me through whatever the outcome, a girlfriend who supported me through the difficult and dark days of being a business owner when I wanted to give up, and a traveling girlfriend who will pack her bags whenever I need to go on the road. I can’t forget my girlfriend who doesn’t mind calling me out on the carpet!
I honestly don’t know how I would make it without these wonderful friends in my life. Although I call this time in my life an “awakening,” it might be more accurately called my “new beginning.” I realized that girlfriends are not just for shopping, even though that is definitely a fun activity. They are there to help, guide, support, laugh, encourage, challenge, and love me for who I am.

Awesome post, Angelia! You are my girl and always will be.
Can’t wait for the podcast!
Angelia,
What a beautiful blog on the value of girlfriends. Sometimes we think we need a single best friend (that’s God!) But, it’s powerful when we can acknowledge what each of our girlfriends brings to the friendship table!
