Do you speak the language of friendship?
I’d love to speak French or Italian. Both sound so lovely and European-suave. To speak either, would take a concentration on my part and time for lessons and practice. To be understood by those fluent, I would need to make it a focus in my life and a commitment to learn.
Funny, we don’t seem as intrigued by the language of friendship. Nor are we interested in improving it.
Why is that? Share your thoughts on why below in the comments following today’s Daily Inspiration.

Wednesday, December 2, 2009 The Language of Friendship
|
Dear Girlfriend,
“I love you” said to a dog is verbal petting. (And believe me, I say it a lot to the furry child on the left above.) “I love you” to a partner has a past, a present and a future. But, if said to a stranger, a coworker or a police officer, it’s quite different, right?
It’s not about the words. It’s the meaning, the feelings, the actions and the authentic emotions. It’s the language of friendship.
Thankfully we don’t always hear words, from our friends, we hear meanings. We know the context of the comments and the heart from which it came.
What language do you speak to your friends? Is it an expression of love, respect, admiration and support? Or have things gone a little silent lately? I know we often want others to make the first move, but sometimes we have to break the silence and get the conversation going again.
Make time, take time to keep the language of friendship alive with the wonderful women who bless you with their friendship. Life really is better, together with your girlfriends!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Teach your daughters (& sons) about the language of friendship
Who can resist the dog/elephant video of unlikely friends? (Not me!) Well, they’ve got nothing on Owen and Mzee – a baby rhino orphaned by the December 2004 tsunami and an 130-year old tortoise who became friends and even created their own language to communicate. Wouldn’t this make a great kid’s gift for the holidays? Teach kids how to share a language of friendship.
