Dear Girlfriend,
My first Thanksgiving after college looked nothing like this Norman Rockwell painting. Gathered around the table were a couple dozen people of various nationalities, ages, sexual preferences or political parties. We were a ‘family’ of orphans, people without homes or hometowns to go to.
It was special. It was memorable. It was perfect. We had each other – along with each others’ unique dishes, stories and expression of gratitude for friends and for being together.
Who do you need to invite over for Thanksgiving? What friends (or ‘orphans’) should you call up to make plans? Who might be thankful for an invitation to go out for a drink or take a walk together? (See our ideas for girlfriend gratitude!) Have a special, memorable, perfect Thanksgiving!

I want to be the kind of friend I’d love to have. I’d love to always send the perfect card, give the favorite gift, know without asking what I can do to help and surprise my friends with displays of gratitude and friendship that make their day. Wouldn’t you?
I know. We don’t need any more guilt in our lives. That’s not the intent here. We just want to offer the inspiration and ideas that can help all of us be the best friend we can be.
Life is about the little things, so is friendship. Be conscious of who is there for you and the friendships you really treasure. Then send a note, write an email, give her a call, make time for her. Give thanks for her friendship – all year round. Be that friend – you’d love to have. (You’ll actually have fun striving for that!)
