I met Deb in Montgomery, AL during my Jr. High School years. She was smart, cute, funny and her family was nice to me. I remember spending lots of weekends hanging out there – always glad to have a place to go. (It was more fun than my house!) We were content to hang out in her room talking or go roam the mall with each other. (Funny, she met her husband of 20+ years at that mall!)

I’m so thankful for that kindness and friendship. Now we’re connected through Facebook and she looks exactly the same (even though she has grandchildren now) – seriously, just exactly the same! But what’s really beautiful is the memories I have of an old friend (who, again, doesn’t look old!) and how thankful I am for having been her friend.

Do you remember your first BFF? What friends helped you through those tough high school years? Who was there for you when your heart was broken, you celebrated birthdays and milestones, and who stood by you through times like losing a job or loved one?

During this season of thankfulness, don’t forget the friends who help you through life. Remember to thank the wonderful women in your life for their friendship. Show your appreciation for their support and love with a note, call or kind comments. Give thanks for your friends, old and new.

And remember to be there for them too. Life really is better, together with your girlfriends!
