One week from today is Thanksgiving – the day of gratitude.
We’re celebrating by making a it a month of gratitude – actually of GIRLFRIEND GRATITUDE.

Thursday, November 19, 2009 Tis the month of Girlfriend Gratitude!

Dear Girlfriend,
I have good intentions. Really, I do. I always intend to send birthday cards, compliment my friends on how beautiful they are or thank them for their love and support.
But, sometimes life gets in the way. I get busy. I forget. I think that by silently hoping their birthday is special is at least something. And I really hope they just know how much their friendship means to me. (A LOT!)
That’s when I also remember the quote by Ian Percy: “We judge others by their behavior. We judge ourselves by our intentions.” Then, I realize that G.B. Stern had it right. My silent gratitude (birthday wishes, compliments, etc.) isn’t much use to anyone.
Maybe it’s just me. If that’s the case, I beg for your forgiveness and grace. But, just by chance, maybe you’re like me. You too ‘get busy,’ and don’t say ‘Thank You‘ as often as you should. Neither of us show how much we appreciate our friends nearly enough and we could do a much better job expressing our gratitude for their friendship and support.
Just like you, I bet they grant you some grace and feel reciprocal gratitude for you. (Isn’t friendship fabulous?!) And, maybe TODAY is a great day to express your girlfriend gratitude. Maybe send a THANKSgiving card to a friend. Invite her to dinner next Thursday. Or just send a mushy email expressing how much her friendship means to you.
Speak up. Don’t let your gratitude be silent. You know, life really is better, together with your girlfriends!
