Are you superstitious? Do you follow the moon or stars? Stay in bed on days like this that happen to fall on Friday the 13th?
I just am glad to be lucky. I’m lucky in the friendships I have and for the blessings these women bring to my life. Are you? We’re exploring this luck today in our weekly Girlfriendology Newsletter. Dear Girlfriend,
Happy Friday the 13th! Wikipedia states this as a “day of superstition of bad or GOOD luck.”Did you know that you control your luck? In “The Luck Factor,” author Richard Wiseman “claims lucky people simply possess four basic psychological traits unlucky people don’t: the ability to maximize chance opportunities, to listen to ‘gut feelings,’ to expect good fortune and to see the bright side of bad luck.” (Amazon summary)It’s kind of like ‘lucky’ women who are blessed with great friendships. We possess:
- The ability to maximize chance opportunities – Like meeting someone new and creating a friendship.
- To listen to ‘gut feelings’ – That may draw us to a friend in need or may cause us to replace a toxic friendship with a healthy one. (We’ll talk about that in our BlogTalkRadio show today!)
- To expect great fortune in friends – Look for wonderful women to befriend and celebrate the ones in our lives who bless us with kindness and support.
- To see the bright side of friendships that haven’t lasted – We learn through those experiences and hopefully helped each other grow.

Remember learning ‘manners’ as a child? Please. Thank You. You’re Welcome. Holding the door for another person and not cutting in line. Not talking with food in your mouth or the ‘forbidden’ elbows on the table.I do. Those ‘manners’ are just a way of respecting and appreciating others. They’re a reminder of kindness, support and concern. And, it’s a way of inspiring others to do the same.
With Thanksgiving coming (and, for me, a birthday just passing), ‘Thank You’ stands out. This ‘attitude of gratitude’ makes me appreciate the years of friendship and the wonderful ways that women have blessed my life.
It’s as simple as “Thank You” (and you can even use Thanksgiving cards to make it easy). It’s as quick as an email or phone call.
Who do you need to thank for her friendship? For making your days special and your life better? Who should you show some friendship appreciation? Don’t just think about it - do it! Show some girlfriend gratitude!
