Dear Girlfriend,
Anything worthwhile has some ‘costs’ involved. We have to make an effort, possibly invest our money or give up some other of our possessions. We must invest our time and resources to build a strong foundation. Hard work, teamwork, practice – all can be the ‘price we have to pay.’
Generally we’re okay with this. We don’t expect to become a company president without years of experience, win the lottery without buying a ticket, or make millions based on $0 investment.
But what about with our friendships? Without time invested in each other and a willingness to be there for each other, we’re more ‘acquaintances.’ With little support and personal commitment, we don’t form the bonds that we’ll need for when times get tough – and we know they will at some point. Without a conscious effort and commitment, we risk missing out on valuable friendships.
Want a friend? Be a friend. Start good ‘habits’ of staying in touch with your girlfriends. Make an effort to talk with a new neighbor. Take a couple extra minutes to listen to a friend or to write an encouraging email. Make room in your schedule for a ‘walk and talk,’ drink or meal with a friend.
Invest in friendship. It pays amazing dividends and yields priceless friendships. You’ll be glad you did!
Because life really is better, together with your girlfriends!

Blessed. Do you feel it? Do you ever stop and think about all the amazing women in your life who are there for you? Those fabulous females who care, share, support, amuse and love you?
What does it take to make us take note of our blessings?
Well, for me it was a birthday this week. As much as I avoid the dreaded number (and prefer you to avoid that number as well!), I do appreciate the years of friendships and memories. I enjoy looking back on how people have come into my life and how those friendships have grown. And I love the experiences and lessons I’ve learned and continue to learn.
Cards, emails, Facebook notes, Twitter tweets, calls and gifts – all made me feel a little like Sally Fields (“You like me!“) and humbled by the attention and kindness of friends and even friends of friends.
Blessed. That’s how I feel. Humbled. Supported. Loved. (Old, but loved!)
As a girlfriend, I hope you experience the love and support of your friends. I wish for you a supportive community and days where your friends surround you with their well-wishes, hugs and love.
