Girlfriendology 101
Guide to the Online Community for Women based on Female Friendship |
October 23, 2009 |
|
Dear Girlfriend,
This week I tried, not sure how successfully, to explain to a man why female friendship is so important. He politely shook his head, but I don’t think I convinced him. (And that’s okay!)
All it takes is a photo like this one to demonstrate the power and potential of women (or girls) who band together to conquer the world and together to be ‘ready for anything.’
With our friends, we really are stronger, smarter, braver, happier, healthier and ‘funner.’ When I’m with my favorite female friends (like my BFF Jill who shared this photo with me), I feel empowered and energized, safe and secure, both liked and loved. With girlfriends by our side, we help each other be our true selves, see things when we can’t and (so cool!) reach for our dreams.
What friend who, when by your side, makes you feel like you’re ready for anything? Be thankful for that relationship and the wonderful gift of friendship.
p.s. Can you imagine this photo if it wasn’t all females? It just wouldn’t be the same. Maybe I don’t need to explain that to guys. We women just get it.
Because life really is better, together with your girlfriends!

How’s your life?
Are you busy? Happy? Healthy? Peaceful? Are you taking care of yourself? Eating and sleeping okay? I hope so – and so do all the women who know you. Isn’t it great to have a support system around you who only wants the best for you? (And, if you don’t have this, you may need to find some new friends and be the best friend you can be to them!)
It was a crazy busy week for me. I was in Vegas for BlogWorldExpo and had the honor of working with Collective Bias, Healthy Choice and other fabulous brands (like Crocs, Genesis Today, Soy Joy, e.l.f. and USA Weekend). It was wonderful to see a bunch of fabulous bloggers and great girlfriends (like Bev, Erika, Lori & Christine). I’ll feature all of them next week on Girlfriendology!
Tuesday I was honored to speak at “SummitUp” in Dayton. (Chris Brogan and Lewis Howes also spoke so I was in great company!) The best part was spending time (and DMing!) my fav friend Carole (shown above). I was ‘accused’ of her being a ‘plant’ in my conference because she’s so supportive – but that’s just my friend! (That’s what girlfriends do!)
Are you walking, Debba? Today we’re in DENVER (okay, virtually) on the Gal-to-Gal walk for Stage IV Breast Cancer Patients and their families. PLEASE join TEAM GIRLFRIENDOLOGY to help this amazing, INSPIRING organization (founded by Design-her Gals).

It’s a fun, friend-filled Friday on BlogTalkRadio/ Girlfriendology TODAY at 11am PST/2:00pm EST!
I never thought when I emailed this mega best-selling author that she’d write me back, much less agree to an interview with me – but she did! KRIS RADISH has her own book genre – fabulous female fiction! Her latest book, The Shortest Distance Between Two Women, is great (like her book club favorites: Annie Freeman’s Fabulous Traveling Funeral and Searching for Paradise in Parker PA). She was our first podcast and video interviews and she’s a wonderful girlfriend. I’m just so thrilled to have Kris join us on this BlogTalkRadio show.
TODAY at 11am PST/2pm EST on BlogTalkRadio.com/girlfriendology! Join us next week as we’ll talk with Susan Shapiro Barash, author of Toxic Friends: The Antidote for Women Stuck in Complicated Friendships. Any friendship you want to ask her about? Be on the call for this interesting show!

What’s your book club reading?
This week at our neighborhood Book Club, we talked about travels, new haircuts, work ’stuff,’ what houses have/haven’t sold, food, Halloween parties … oh! … and the book we read!
Here’s a few ideas for your girlfriend book club:

Girlfriendology Community Update
Now that we’re all together, let’s talk! That’s the beauty of a community – and especially a community of women!
Here’s what you can find and add to this online community for women. We need your input and ‘girlfriend advice’ on things like:
- Frugal living – Share how you save money and add links to coupons so we can all save!
- Books and Book Clubs – Who and what are you reading? What books do you recommend to a girlfriend?
- Relationships and Challenges – Advice for caring for elderly parents? How to meet friends in a new town?
- Foodies - We want to hear your reviews, recipes and recommendations.
- Girlfriend Questions - You know the things you want to ask but feel silly bringing up – like “Am I normal if I only mop my kitchen floor monthly?” or “What really are ‘mom jeans’?” Ask them! You’re in the company of supportive, sharing women!
Plus, you can form groups (like Book Lovers, Gals from Galena, whatever!), send messages, get discounts for being a member (and membership is FREE!), search for friends and more.
This is OUR COMMUNITY. So share with us what you want from this group of great gals. We’re here to share, care, learn, grow, inspire and support – like a great big girlfriend group! And we want to hear from you what will make this the best place for sharing our lives together online and offline.

Nobody sees a flower – really – it is so small it takes time.
We haven’t time – and to see takes time,
like to have a friend takes time.
Georgia O’Keefe

I love this time of the year. The Autumn leaves amaze me with the colorful way they’re ‘toasted’ on the edges of trees and the wonderful ‘painted’ landscape all around us.
The funny thing is, the season always sneaks up on me. All of a sudden I look up and it’s Fall. The leaves are already starting to drift toward the ground and I missed enjoying every second of this incredible season.
Friendships can sneak up on us too. A special day together makes you realize how much your friends mean to you. A note or call reminds you why you feel special – because wonderful women remind you that you are.
To see, and to have a friend, takes time. Isn’t it worth it to have (and give) the love and support of friends?
What friend do you need to connect with? Call, write or even Facebook her. And look up and appreciate the beauty of Fall and of Friends.
THANKS Girlfriend! Have a fun, friend-filled, Fall weekend!!
