Who would I be without my Girlfriends?
It’s day 16 of National Women’s Friendship Month.
And today we’re asking the BIG question – who would YOU be without YOUR girlfriends? Scary, right?! Guest blogger, Barbara Govednik had this to share on that topic:
Who Would I Be Without My Girlfriends?
Who would I be without my girls – that tight crew of co-conspirators I surround myself with, women of herculean strength, amazing abilities, limitless affection and the capacity to make everything around them shine like a diamond and sing like a bird? Without Megan’s flair, Leslie’s spirit, Amy’s encouragement, Betsy’s inspiration, Corinne’s joy, Andrea’s energy, Shannon’s enduring love, and all the others I can’t name here because there is only so much space on the Internet?
Oh, I’d be a sad, hollow little thing: the meek woman resigned to the fact that the funky-wheeled shopping cart is good enough for her and pushing crookedly down the grocery aisle without complaint or the gumption to get a different damn cart. My girls make me bold. They make me own my desires as they own theirs. Because of my girls, I take responsibility for creating exactly what I want.
Without my girls, I’d be bereft of wit and inspiration; adventureless and homebound. And surely I’d be wearing the wrong colors, the wrong shapes and possibly the wrong shoes.
Their belief and delight in what I do and how I do it — whether it is right, wrong or indifferent — is emboldening. It feels a bit oxymoronic, but without the unwavering glow of my girls, I don’t believe I would trust myself.
My girls are the essential push and the ultimate safety net. Without them, I simply wouldn’t be me. At least not out loud.

So, girlfriend – WHO would you be without girlfriends? Would you look, dress, eat, exercise, read, explore, dream the same? Would your job, fashion, hairstyle, neighborhood be the same? Would you dream the dreams only you can have – and only your best friends can know and encourage?
In honor of National Women’s Friendship Month, and with the inspiration by this great guest blog by Barbara Govednick, think about this. Who would YOU be without your girlfriends?
p.s. Sorry that I don’t have a photo of Barbara and her wonderful girlfriends. The picture shown is Cincinnati Women Bloggers.

As I sit here all misty from reading what you have written, all I can say as I blow my nose is, thank you. For the kind words but most importantly, for being you. Love you! M
You’re extraordinary Barbara. I cherish our friendship as much as I cherish who you are as a woman. Thank you for your inspiration, kind words and of course being your fabulous self. Can we shop for shoes now? xoxo ~smo
Barbara, I’m honored and moved by this post. Yep, without my community of women I’d be a lesser version of myself. So well put. Thank you for being a stand for us bringing out the best in each other!
Barbara:
Thanks for making what we all feel but can’t often articulate so abundantly clear–our friends complete us. We are all lucky to have you as a friend!

Here here, Barbara! Even the thought of having to live life without my girlfriends is more than I can bear!
Once again, Barbara, WELL SAID! Our friends help us see who we are and like what we see.
