Friends are everywhere. We just have to say “Hi.”

I met SUGAR JONES at a conference earlier this year. She’s the kind of girl who’s kind of a ‘walking party’ (in a good way!) and is thoughtful, deep and caring too. She’s smart, sassy and silly – a great combo! So, it is no surprise that this fun chick gets the whole ‘girlfriend thing.’ You know – how much we NEED our friends and how we also need to show our appreciation for them, like she did in this guest blog in honor of International Friendship Day:

In honor of Friendship Day (did you even know it was Friendship Day?) I thought I’d recognize a few people that have touched me through their words and through their kindness to this year.

This friend takes my breath away with the images she captures. She finds beauty everywhere and I love her for her beautiful spirit.

This friend makes me want to break out long forgotten ingredients from the back of my pantry. She is also the friend that has an impish twinkle in her eyes that makes you smile and giggle and wish you had been friends in high school.

This friend reminds me that in the simplest moments, we find our magnificence.

This friend understands me. Doesn’t hurt that she has a detailed map of my personality… but still… she knows my faults and still agreed to drive thousands of miles together.

This friend soothes others with her calming voice even amidst her own daily chaos. She is compassionate and courageous and I love talking to her in the middle of the night when both of our husbands are on the road.

This friend reminds me to be me and laughs when I say “holler.” She is also the one that helped me through a very tough time so long ago. It’ll be a great day when we actually meet!

This friend amazes me with the beautiful way she strings words and thoughts together, bringing to life her pain and her happiness. I want to cry with her. I want to laugh with her. I want to live in her heart. She is just the loveliest person I know.

This friend didn’t really want to be my friend. Still, when I needed a room in Austin, she scooched over and let me snuggle up with her.

This friend floors me with the love and patience she exudes throughout all of her challenges in motherhood. She has an easy smile and a comforting hug and she doesn’t make you feel silly for crying in the middle of a cocktail party.

This friend reminds me to live life as an adventure and not to let the constraints of the-way-things-should-be hold any of us back from our dreams.

This friend selflessly builds others up, sharing her knowledge and voice in a way that contributes so much to our community. And I love her crazy eyes!!

This friend loves on all of us with her precious words.

These friends bring me back to reality and remind me not to take it all so damn seriously.

And you know what? That’s not even one tenth of the list of awesome people I love to read and to know. I hate that we only have one day to be recognizing people we ought to be recognizing throughout the year. So, I think I’m going to attempt to share friends here more often. Hey… why not Fridays? You know… for the aliteration and all. Hope you come back then to meet some more awesome people I have the honor of calling Friends!!
