A blog is like a home. It shows personality and passions, displays all the things that decorate life and is a wonderful place to greet friends. So, welcome girlfriend! Here at the Girlfriendology blog, we chat about life as a woman, a girlfriend, an entrepreneur and all the big and little things in life that make it much more fun to experience with a friend. Grab a cup of tea or coffee and make yourself at home!

Stress, secrets and surprises

Girlfriendology flowerGirlfriends share stuff – that’s what we do. Stuff like secrets, surprises and all the stress we’re going through.

It helps to share. It ‘lightens our load’ to have another caring person help us when we feel weighted down by life, business … aka: ’stuff.’ And it’s fun to share – things like secrets (with someone we trust) and surprises (that we just have to share with someone!)

In this week’s newsletter we share some secrets, surprises and stress. Stuff we can all relate to. And if you’re not getting this weekly girlfriend inspiration (you don’t want to miss out on all this ’stuff,’ do you?!), be a girlfriend and sign up for it!

Guide to the Online Community for Women based on Female Friendship
July 22, 2009
Dear Girlfriend,

GirlfriendologyConsider this like a surprise call from a girlfriend! We can’t wait until ‘fun, friend-filled Friday’ for this week’s update so SURPRISE Girlfriend!

We’ve got some other girlfriend surprises up our sleeve too. Our new site, aka: Girlfriendology 2.0, is preparing to launch – which means we will have more content, sharing and girlfriends to join us online.

Why Girlfriendology 2.0 and this new online community for women? Good question:

  • Girlfriends love to share – Women constantly want to share stories about their friends, request girlfriend answers/ideas/advice (we TRUST our girlfriends!) and tell us they want a safe place to have female-friendly, supportive, fun, interactive connections.
  • We love to meet our friends’ friends – Don’t you love connecting with amazing women who support, inspire and share? Well, often these can be found through our other girlfriends and soon we’ll have girlfriend groups who have a place to get together and ‘do life’ together. (Start a group for your book club, girlfriend group, knitters or moms – you can do that in Girlfriendology.com!)
  • We learn from each other - We created a safe, friendly, supportive community were we can learn from each other. From recipes to romance, health to home, finances to fitness – we all can learn from each other. And, when we do, we’re all smarter, stronger, supported and empowered. (Kinda cool, isn’t it?!)

Give us a few days for the new site to go public. We just couldn’t keep the secret any longer! And we can’t wait to see how this (free!) community grows and shares. Imagine the power and potential of women sharing and caring for other women. We really do want to make the world a better place – one friendship at a time. This is how we start and we are thrilled you’re one of the girlfriends to help make this happen!

GirlfriendologyGet over 1300 passionate women together …

… and you’ve got BlogHer. BlogHer is a conference for women bloggers that brings together moms, non-moms, pet moms, women who have moms, etc. And, we share our enthusiasm for each other, blogging, social media and time with our girlfriends. (It really is a big girlfriend party!)

If you’re going and you see/meet me, please introduce yourself! I love seeing everyone’s avatars on Twitter but my little brain can’t remember all 13,000 of you so say HI and introduce yourself. I’m excited to meet you and the wonderful women of the blogosphere.

And, speaking of BlogHer:

If you’re going to BlogHer, you gotta go to BowlHer! 500+ of your closest, craziest blogger girlfriends will be bowling in Chicago and various cities on July 25th. (See if we’re bowling in your town!) We’re thrilled to be a BowlHer hostess.

Stressed (What? You too?!)

Debba Haupert, founder of Girlfriendology
Girlfriend – Are you stressed? Ever had so many ‘balls in the air,’ that you were sure it was just a matter of time until they crashed down on your head?!

Well, being in this pre-BlogHer, pre-new-website-launch mode has me feeling a bit stressed. And, from the sound of some tweets, others are sharing in this pre-traumatic stress disorder as well.

As a reminder to me (and hopefully to help you when you’re feeling that) here are a few thoughts to hopefully help:

  • Don’t sweat the small stuff. Work or life may be overwhelming, but as long as you have your health and people who love you, you’re not doing too bad, right?
  • Temporary. I try to remind myself that a lot of my worries/fears are just BIG right now. A year from now I probably won’t remember them or I’ll have survived them and moved on.
  • Those things that keep me awake. Often (again, aside from health and major issues) the more I worry, the less likely fears are to actually happen. Like those goofy panics over little things that seem really big in the middle of the night.
  • Female friendship = stress reduction. Sometimes, I know, we have little time for our girlfriends. But at least we know they’re there for us – even when we can’t spend time together. Just knowing they care and love us with our wacky schedules and goofy personalities and fears, that’s enough to reduce stress and help us look forward to great girlfriend times together in the future.

So, girlfriend, know that your friends are there for you. That we care and we wish the best for you. And thanks for being there for us. Life really is better – together with our girlfriends!

THANKS Girlfriend! Have a fun, friend-filled week!!
