Summertime Friends & Fun
Summertime, or any time, is a great time to spend time with your girlfriends.
It’s hot. Sweaty, sticky hot. Grumpy, irritable, stuffy, and did we mention STICKY hot?! Take your mind off the heat and focus on your friends with these fun ways to spend your summer days or nights – of course, with your favorite female friends. And, have them bring some of their friends along for even more fun!
1. Party in a box – Take the party with you! Buy an inflatable pool and take it, with a cooler of beverages, beach towels and treats, over to a friend’s backyard. (You might also need a pump to inflate.) Add a boom box and make it a cool day and way to spend time with a favorite friend. Also, as one girlfriend added on Twitter, add some ice cubes to the water to make it even more refreshing. Remember – there are lots of discounts on flattering swimwear (and slimwear!) on SlimPerfect and Free Shipping through June! And, if you don’t want to get in the water, pull up a lawn chair and soak your feet in the pool – so relaxing!
2. Strawberry Shortcake Party – Another suggestion from Twitter (thanks TheTLady, aka: Tina Marie, with her girlfriend Jeanna in photo), each bring ingredients for this favorite summertime treat including sufficient amounts of whipped cream or Cool Whip. Doesn’t this sound like the perfect summer treat for you and your BFFs?! Or make it a rootbeer float party – whatever you and your girlfriends want!
3. Summer Wine Party - Have a porch/deck and some fun neighbor girlfriends? Invite the girls over for wine and laughter. Add a bucket of ice for white wine, paper/plastic cups and some fun females – makes for a perfect summer night! We did this recently on our street and it was a blast.
4. Chick Flick Treat Night - Invite the girls over for a favorite ‘chick flick’ in a nice, air conditioned home/apartment! (Try “New In Town” with Renee Zellweger – it takes place in MN in Winter so it will keep you cool!) Make some homemade ice cream sandwiches or an easy, 5-ingredient lemon raspberry trifle.
5. Picnic in the shade – your best friend or a bunch of girlfriends. Don’t forget a camera – you’ll have some great photo opportunities!
6. Act like a kid and go to a Museum – You don’t have to be a mom to go on a little Summer field trip – grab a girlfriend and go enjoy art, history or whatever in a cool, creative environment. Check for free nights or find online discounts.
7. Pampering Party - Nothing better to take you mind off the heat like a cool, relaxing facial or much-needed summer pedicure. And, to make it even better, plan some pampering with your favorite gal pals. To save a little cash, check out a local beauty/salon school for their reduced rates. Call far in advance, they fill up soon but can help you save enough money for happy hour after your spa treatments!
8. Hit the Gym together - I know … you’ll get sweaty. But it’s a different kind of sweaty – it’s the kind that makes you feel good. Plus, the time together with your girlfriend will guarantee that it’s fun and good for you! Take a water aerobics class together – you’ll get a work out and get to practice your synchronized swimming routine! (Or go walk together at an indoor shopping center. Then see #10.)
9. Go play! Visit an Amusement Park - You don’t have to be a mom, kiddo or teen worker to go spend some time at an amusement park. Riding roller coasters will give you a breeze and you won’t mind the water rides. (Another option – go see a baseball game. Sit in the shade, enjoy a cold beverage and just enjoy time together and great people watching.)
10. Shopping! – Girlfriends shopping together is always fun. Plus, purchases made with a BFF always remind you of that fun time together – and she’ll help you find the perfect purchases. On a budget, give yourself $10 or $20 and see what all you and your girlfriend(s) can find for your shopping allowance. Go to a movie or dinner while you’re there. Make it a shopping, entertainment, exercise and treasure hunt adventure!
