Desired and often measured, business goals generally look for the ROI. And, it’s not a bad thing. If we’re going to give our time, money and/or effort, it’s understandable to expect something in return. Well, kinda.

 Dear Girlfriend,
Lately I’ve been in a lot of discussions about ROI (return on investment). Last night at a Twitter class I taught, one person asked about the ROI of social media (does the time commitment = making money, for example). At the SOBcon conference I attended last weekend (which was fabulous!), the theme was “the ROI of Relationships.”
Which, of course, I have to ask:
What’s the return on investment in a friend?
Do girlfriendships provide a benefit? What do we get out of building into a friendship and spending time, money and emotional involvement with a friend? And, the popular question: What’s in it for ME?
Well, if happiness, health, less stress, more self-confidence and a longer life have value to you, then, YES! There is definitely ROI to this vital relationship. And, even if it didn’t, wouldn’t the fun, laughs, memories and lessons be enough to make it worthwhile to make time for your friends?
Go test it. Spend time with your girlfriends this weekend, call up an old girlfriend and catch up and then think about some of the fun times you’ve had with friends in the past. Kinda therapeutic, isn’t it?
What’s in it for YOU? Longer, happier, healthier life filled with a huge ROI for your friendship. ROI = Relationships of Importance. I’d say that’s a great investment return!

You are amazing! You manage schedules and budgets, transportation and education, discipline and encouragement. You AT LEAST deserve a day of celebration, appreciation and relaxation!
This Mother’s Day turn the kids over to Dad or the grandparents and go spend some time with your girlfriends. Even just a few hours of “girlfriend therapy” and you’ll be re-energized and reconnected.
