Celebrating National Women’s Friendship Day … making earrings & stuff!
National Women’s Friendship Day was started by Kappa Delta Sorority in 1999 to celebrate the wonderful relationship of female friends. Each year more women get involved and today, all over the country, girlfriends are getting together to show their love and appreciation for each other!
I’m having dinner tonight with nine of my favorite female friends to celebrate our friendships. We’ll catch up, share stories, laugh, possibly cry and, no doubt, come home with a confirmed appreciation for the wonderful gift of girlfriends.
As the instigator(!) of the dinner, I wanted to make it special with some girlfriend gift bags. And, being creative, of course I had to make some surprises for them. One very simple and quick things to make for girlfriends are earrings. Deciding which beads and embellishments takes the most time, the actual assembly goes fast. I just used coated silver wire and miscellaneous glass beads. Some pairs match exactly and some are a little more ‘funky’ with matching but different beads on each earring.
I’m also working on some other surprises for my girlfriends (but they might be reading, so I can’t tell all!). Even when I’m swamped with projects, work and life in general, there is something therapeutic about making gifts for girlfriends. I get lost in my thoughts of them, memories of times together, appreciation for all they add to my life, the joy that I feel when I’m with them – it makes me happy to make anything for them.
What girlfriends make you feel that way? How do you show them how much you appreciate them? What can you do to make them feel as special as their friendship is to you? Make things for your girlfriends. Then share your stories.
