One of the GREAT things about girlfriends are how FUN they are – and how they get us and our sense of humor. The laughter we share with friends is genuine and heart-felt. It’s one of the therapeutic benefits of gal pals and one reason why we LOVE our girlfriends.

If you follow Girlfriendology on Twitter, you may know that I spent 13 or so hours in a hospital surgery waiting room yesterday. It was emotional and exhausting.
My girlfriend Allison is doing okay this morning (so thankful!) – as well as anyone can be who was operated on for 13.5 hours. And that is a great thing.
Sitting there gives you time to think about things like girlfriend lessons:
- I have no business complaining about ANYTHING. I’m healthy and happy, and isn’t that all that really matters? (To be honest, I know others who would be happier to learn this lesson too. I’m not naming names. You know who you are!)
- You need your friends. They want to ‘do life’ with you but it takes an effort on both sides. If you want friends, be a friend. Life’s no fun alone.
- And you need to stay in touch with your friends. Throughout the day, we sent out updates. Her friends were so appreciative and shared their concern. It doesn’t necessarily take a lot of time, just make the effort.
Another girlfriend lesson from earlier this week came from lunch with my buddy Becky. We had a great discussion on our definition of ’success.’ Is a corporate title and big house, really what life is about – or should we evaluate ourselves on our happiness, friendships and contribution to others? Is it more about the quote above of making life less difficult for each other?
