Celebrate sister-friends

Our social media friendship in a nutshell

Who’s your sister-friend?

You know … the girlfriend who is closer than a sister and as much a part of who you are as any relative. The type of friend with whom time and distance apart don’t matter – that any reunion finds you exactly where you left off?

I visited one of my dear ‘sister-friends‘ this weekend. We became friends in college and grew closer after school when we eventually both moved to the same town. Over a dozen years ago, we both moved to different cities, got married and our lives took different paths. Life got busy – she had two kids and loves being a busy mom and executive. My life filled up with an entrepreneurial passion and social media marketing.

We talked a few months ago and it made me miss her. Then, my husband had some work in D.C. which is about two hours from my friend and her family so I checked if we could stay with her. As a sister-friend would do, she wouldn’t hear of us doing anything BUT staying with her and her wonderful family. (Every time I have visited them, my appreciation and love for her and her family grows!) As I thanked her profusely for taking us in (I had even tried to connect with some relatives on my visit but they weren’t as eager for visitors!) she said, ‘Why would I not be thrilled for you to stay here? We’re sisters!”

There is such a thing as a sister-friend. It’s the wonderful woman (or if we’re lucky, women) who makes us feel welcome and as if no time had passed since our last meeting. It’s the friend who isn’t surprised to hear from you even when it’s been years and who connects instantly with us. She’s the person we can trust with our deepest, darkest secret and know she’ll give us advice when we need it.

Do you have a sister-friend?

Are you someone’s special friend? I’d encourage you to spend some time thinking about that. Remember those times in your life when a friend has been there for you and who you could really call at 3:00a.m. Look at the friends in your life that you want to be friends with through all the stages and changes in life.

Call up an old friend and reconnect. Send a card. Go visit. Don’t let the friendship fade or become too distant to rebuild. And be thankful for those friends who welcome us into their home and life, who bring out the best in us and who see our true beauty.

Thanks Kleta – for being my BFF sister-friend! I’m so blessed to have you as my forever best friend. And thanks for reminding me that friendship exceeds time and distance. You’re a great sister-friend!

I wasn’t lucky enough to be born with a sister, but I was lucky enough to find four sister-friends in college that are such a wonderful part of my life. We get together at least twice a year and share our lives, our loves, our losses. And, over 35 years, there’s been a lot of living, a lot of loving, some tragic losses. I wouldn’t trade these gals for anything.

These gals are the BEST!!!!! I am so thankful for my sisters and my sister friends.
Julie, Sandy and Susan are angels in my midst that are always there to help strenghten me with words and actions of wisdom, encouragement and love thru God when I am in need.
They are blessed and they inspire me!

I would love to have sister-friends. Most of the people I know are too busy to be bothered. It saddens me but what can you do? I was born the youngest of 9 and separated from my family most of my life and have 3 sisters and (1 that died).
I never had the closeness and I have always desired it. I have no daughters, just sons and grandsons.
