The Anti Aging Battle – 7 Weapons To Have in Your Arsenal.
Hyaluronic Acid, Pro-xylane, Nanotechnology….the anti aging battle can be a fierce one to face. However, there are seven simple things you should know that might make the battle a little less treacherous.
For the General Consumer:
1. Sirtuins – These protein enzymes found in our bodies naturally reduce inflammation and increase the lifespan of cells. Sirtuins also increases elastin and collagen production.
Products to look for: New Ultimate Age repair creams from Avon and Estee Lauder’s Time Zone Line and Wrinkle Reducing Cream.
2. Hyaluronic Acid – Many products–from under-the-eye brighteners to lipsticks—contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic Acid is an amazing little natural moisturizer found in our body. Unfortunately, we begin to loose it as we get older. Hyaluronan molecules make it easy for cells to pass along proteins and nutrients between one another. The trick with skincare is finding products that can actually penetrate our surface skin layers and help to increase and mimic the Hyaluronic Acid in the body.
Products to Look For: L’Oreal’ Paris Skin Genesis Deep Action Night Complex, Laura Mercier Flawless Eye Serum, and Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Pen.
3. Alpha Lipoic Acid – This is an important antioxidant that is water and fat soluble. It protects cells from free-radicals which in turn helps to prevent elemental damage.
Products to Look for: Look for this one in many of the “natural” and organic skincare lines. For individuals with damaged skin:
4. Niacinamide – If the damage has already been done, now it is time to reverse it. Enzymes are what repairs damaged connections in our DNA. Niacinamide naturally allows those important enzymes to heal those connections. This is a great ingredient to start using sooner rather than later. It, in some studies, has been found to have anti-cancer properties.
Products to look for: Olay products in the Definity line.
5. Peptides – These little guys are your quick and strong plan. They assist in natural production of collagen and elastin. Peptides are amino acids that are the base structure of protein- which means they build stronger skin by reducing wrinkles. After adding peptides for a few weeks your skin may be repaired ready for further anti-aging treatment.
Products to look for: Olay makes a great 14 day Skin Intervention. I love that- it is aging-skin rehab.
Nutritional:
6. Antioxidants – Everyone that is concerned about aging should take antioxidants. Antioxidants applied topically to the skin work from the outside in, so taking antioxidants internally works from the inside out.
Antioxidant Suggestions: Co Q 10, Beta-Carotene, Vitamin C, E and A7. Fish Oil – Make sure it is mercury-free! EPA DHA , the basis of fish oil, helps the skin hold moisture and helps the body promote its own healing mechanisms.
The most important part of anti-aging isn’t “who” you’re applying to your skin but “what” you’re applying to your skin. With these seven “weapons” the anti-aging battle may just end in a truce.
