Dear Girlfriend, Listening. It’s one of the key elements of friendship. Not just ‘hearing,’ but LISTENING. Really, REALLY listening.
As girlfriends we want to LISTEN to YOU. You generously share ideas, stories and inspiration on a daily basis. Heck – you make us want to be better friends and to keep the ‘girlfriend inspiration’ going!
So, we’ve started a couple ways to open up the communication between you and Girlfriendology. And, if you can’t join us at 2:00pm EST on Fridays on our BlogTalkRadio show, you can listen to the conversation/interview at your convenience. (Because we’re all about what’s best for you!)
We also want to know more about YOU, so if you haven’t shared your thoughts in our survey, please do. It’s our way of LISTENING to YOU and being able to provide shows, content and on-going inspiration that will make your life better. Because that’s what girlfriends do!

Ladies,
I realise that this website is sort of exclusive to female to female relationships. Most of my friends over the years have been disporportionately women, in addition I have four daughters and two grand daughters, two ex’s, work as a CNA, and am surrounded by nurses. Can anyone tell me why, a male and a female cannot have the same type of relationship that two females have.. even if we like to do the same things? Is that kind of what a marriage is supposed to be? Or is marriage strictly a role play game? What makes women to women relationships more special? Is it just a differing type of intimacy?
I enjoy the articles and am here to learn. Maybe my next relationship with a female will be better. I and am very athletic, nice looking, not a metro sexual like dude either.. but am I just too nice?? I mean the little old ladies at work just love me.
Hi Tom,
Thanks for your note and for stopping by Girlfriendology. You’re always welcome here!
There is a difference in male/female and female/female relationships. I’ve researched the bond between females (great book – The Tending Instinct, by Shelley S. Taylor). For one thing, biologically we’re different. Our hormones and how they make us respond when under stress are just part of the picture. Our ‘nature’ is different – we’re generally more collaborative and less competitive than men. (I know, there are exceptions for every generalization but we’re looking at the majority of people/responses.) Women are more likely to bond – look eye to eye, talk about just ’stuff’ or really important things in our lives. We like to just hang out with our friends and those bonds make us healthier, happier, less stressed, live longer and feel more beautiful.
Men are more task-oriented and transactional. While women can window shop, men are more the ‘go in and buy and leave’ kind. Male friendships usually need a purpose – working on a project, a car, a house. Women don’t need this.
So, we’re just different. I definitely think there are men who are more social and relate very well with women. My husband is one of them – he’ll be the guy in the kitchen at a party talking recipes with the women. (He’s fortunately the chef in our house.) Do I need girlfriends more than a husband? No. But I definitely wouldn’t be a very good wife if I didn’t allow myself some girlfriend time – I’d be more stressed, boring and unhappy.
So, again, stick around and feel free to comment. If you read that book, please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks so much for commenting! Debba / Girlfriendology
